Warlock Epic Mount Questline in 1.4

Im playing on the PVE server at the moment and noticed that the pre-quests for the epic mount is already there, what I wonder is though, is it safe to do these quests all the way to Dire Maul part before 1.5? (worrying about losing mats etc.)
I know on the PVP server you guys are already way past this phase but perhaps some of you remember how it was back in release?
