Why tank when you can heal... I know of a shaman on ED (feenix) that tanked dungeons. Was alright but he had all the gear you can get for tanking; even some raid ones. Keep in mind you have 0 backup taunts like mocking blow or challenging shout. AoE tanking is almost 0 and 0 survive cooldowns like shieldwall, last stand etc..

In short: If you don't want to be a hindrance play restoration. Anything else and you are basically carried by others in group/raid.

I know resto is the proper way in vanilla. Been there in live. AoE could be done with CL pulling maybe and totems but shield wall and the relative cooldowns is a problem. But I guess for fives (dungeons) might be ok, right? Thank for the answer anyway!

Depends on your set up and skill of your party members. If they dont attack your target only you will have problems due to low AoE agro but yea its possible for Dungeons.

I have tanked every single 5 man dungeon in vanilla on my shaman, pre burning crusade. As long as you have a shield and 1 hander, the armor talents and a few other things for survivability, all it takes is smart group, good CC and you can clear Strat UD with a shammy tank.

Rockbiter weapon is your Def stance, Earth shock is your taunt, remember stoneskin totem for armor and magma totem for AoE.

Its very doable, and I think shaman were originally considered for tanking, dont know why they went the other way with it.

Looks like you need a lot of things :P

I believe that, with proper healers (maybe a Discipline Priest), shamans can tank trash mobs in raids, also. 1-2 mobs shouldn't be that hard.

Stoneskin totem's damage reduction is laughable (it occurs BEFORE reduction from armor) unless you're tanking the bug swarm in the gate. Magma totem is not only a huge mana investment but it also has its own unique entry in each mob's threat table, meaning it's not doing what you think it's doing.

Shaman tanking is great and all, but it doesn't work on this server due to a number of bugs (threat tools not working) that will likely never be resolved.
