Restoration Shaman

I've got a troll Shaman on this server, level 54. Just respecced into resto for my last few levels for healing endgame instances and I was wondering if anyone had any general tips towards skills or gear?

I've got an additional question; What's a decent spec to go if I still want to do some solo PvE / PvP? I'm thinking of going something like this: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#hZxV0dZAchkieqo

For future reference I'll give you the tip that it's completely garbage to go half/half in talents. You have to make a decision on what talent is more important. Go full healing focus, full healing grace, full totemic focus or full Imp healing wave. Never 'sprinkle' talents here and there, unless it's a 'filler talent' meaning that it has to go somewhere in order to go to the next tree.
I've been playing as a Resto shaman in both PvE and PvP for a while now. This has been my spec: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#hZx0bZAfxtVeqo (note that his is not how I would build a restp PvE/PvP spec.) It's not an impressive build it all and it looks like a full blown PvE resto spec, which it is. I learned that:
- I've never had aggro problems and cutting Healing Grace is easily doable as it's useless if you don't have threat problems.
- If you can't take Eye of the Storm then Healing Focus is mandatory for PvP. You will be healing a lot and not getting them off means you will die.
- Imp Ghost Wolf is a must. Getting kited in PvP means your death. Not having it means your opponents can escape. You want to stick on your opponents until they die, if they can escape your grasp you will never win.
- If you don't get +spell hit gear then Nature's Guidance is a must. Not getting those crucial Earth Shocks and Frost Shocks resisted is very important.
- Ancestral Healing is very good vs rogues. You will want to kite warriors but it can be very hard to get rid of Rogues.
- Shamans are very reliant on totems, more so in PvP and getting mana reduction on that will help a lot.
- The main source of damage comes from Lightning Shield, Shocks and white hits. But getting crits don't help much because there is no Flurry in a resto spec.
Outlasting your opponent will be your main strategy in any Resto pvp spec. Going for a 'burst spec' spec while being at least 31 in Resto is a big nono because now you're gimping your win condition that is: outlasting your opponent. If I would make a Resto Pve/PvP spec I would go one of these 2 builds:
1: Pure outlasting: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#hE0zZx0rZVfetV0oo
2: Fun with 2H: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#hZxVrzVZVfetV0oo
Spec number 1 is the best build I can think of because you're going to outlast any opponent that you're up against. But there are Shamans who absolutely want to wield a 2H no matter what, even though it's worse. So there's an alternative route that can be taken for the sake of 'it's more fun'.
The first build has a very neat stat distribution with Stamina > Spellpower/intellect. I can't stress enough how important stamina is. If you can't survive that 'burst moment' that most battles have then you won't get to the 'outlasting' part of the battle. The mean weakness of the Resto shaman is getting killed before the opponent's tempo has been slowed down. Using the right shocks at the right time with grounding/tremor/earthbind totem is crucial.
The second build screws you over because in addition to the forementioned stats you will also want to get Strength and +Crit for your 2H. The good thing is that both builds already have innate +3% hit for both spells and melee weapons so filling up the rest will be relatively easy.

Either an MP/5 or +healing set will be fine for dungeon healing. I would use whatever I could get my hands on and make the decision based on what item has better stats.

The never ending discussion about imp reincarnation vs threat reduction... You will only need that ankh improved to ress up with more mana, there will always be a soulstone to ress up people. The threat reduction is awesome for your first heal on packs like champions in ZG and the trash after vael in bwl to prevent early aggro, after the first 2 hits of the tank you wont have threat issues anymore.
Aslan wrote: The ultimate answer is that you need all of these items listed above in your bags and switch them out (like full mp5 gear for trash clearing, more hp for bosses and so on).
