No joke: You are probably better off tanking 5/10-mans as a ret paladin. I did it regularly with a 2H. Remember devo auro is almost like having another shield(sans block).

Ehhh, methinks some of you do protest too much...holy DMG makes huge amounts of threat with RF up, and I can usually regain aggro on dungeon runners using stun + judge (+ exo for UD)...but in cases where that doesn't work you can just BoP whoever pulled agro and the mob will come running back to you. Unless your DPS are idiots and are nuking the hell out of something that isn't your focus, in which case it's time to find a new group. I can't remember ever losing threat on a pack of mobs when they were being nuked with AoE, even using downranked consecrate. Mana isn't as much of an issue once you learn to calm down and trust your threat, and not spam max ranks. I drink every 3-4 packs or so. Bring mana pots to speed things up, also Demonic Rune + bandage for quick mana refill between packs. Also, make your group give you a few seconds head start (same as waiting for sunders), explain that if they do this it will be quicker overall because you won't need to drink after every pull. Ideally, bring a Ret for 10% bonus threat and have him judge Crusader while you judge Wisdom. With this setup and some +int gear you can tank fine, it's not as bad as this thread is making it out to be imho.

Paladins can tank trash very well (in fact I'd say there's an argument to bring pallies specifically as trash tanks for faster clears). Warriors do remain the better choice for most bosses, however paladin snap aggro and threat generation is higher in my experience (holy dmg isn't affected by armor) so I think they'd actually be a viable choice for dps races and tank&spank bosses because the raid can nuke harder...assuming no taunts etc are required.

Someone complain about mana , someone complain about agro, it's all depend on their "lack of knowledge" everything else is perfect and viable.

Good luck.

How effective are prot pallies at holding aggro at these low levels, having established that if threat is lost it's pretty much impossible to get it back.

If you don't plan to raid and you only wan to do 5 man dungeons, you will have a blast if you first have 11 points into holy for the AoE, it makes tanking a lot easier.

Tankadin are AoE tanks and holding aggro is ease pretty much from 20-60 :)

I have tank dungeons as Holy, plus I have tanked them as Ret in the past. It was just as successful as when I was Prot, however I took a lot more damage.

Correct, while a lot of holy can spike threat pretty quickly, Holy Shock can even used as a form of Taunt.

JC talk lot about Holy shock which is bad info and lack of knowledge .

That is far from Tanking spec or abilities used.

Using strong spell damage weapon and tank gear it will build up your threats as protection like crazy .

you don't need Holy shock or fail specs to use.

11/31/8 is the perfect tanking spec used for raids as you got gear pure for raiding and maintanking.

we are also 1 target agro maker even without aoe . but for that job you need strong spell damage weapon with ench and consumes for spell damage. Therefore not compromising other pieces of gear you got for tank .

you can be holy or ret but then you are missing important things such as surviving and proper threat managing as same time.
