Dont even try and say I dont have the attitude for being a ret pally. I am one of the few rets on this server that blow 200g in consumables EVERY raid. I see you dont even flask yet you talk about my attitude

you are doing it on irrelevant content however, and using that as a means to grant yourself credibility while advising rets to gear incorrectly and miss vital consumables...

If you are going to write a guide make sure you are using all the consumables which a ret should use in your own raids first... wasting them to do 30 more dps in Molten Core then someone unworld-buffed and unflasked is not a worth while investment

Holy - you are incorrect here and I have to step in and ask you to step away from this thread.

Smiter is putting up numbers in both MC and BWL. His gear is what he has at the moment as well - not everyone can afford the time required to grind up to rank 10 to get 6/6 blue set or even worse to rank 12/13 for epic set. IIRC, there's only one raiding Ret that has GM Claymore...

Likewise, not very many Rets have the luxury of having Ashkandi or any other decent 3.5 or slower swing speed 2handed weapon in which to DPS with Seal of Command. All of the MC 2handers are 3.4 swing speed which mean that SotC is the better Seal to use.

Similarly, not every guild allows a single Judgement of the Crusader, let alone JotC stacking for multiple debuffs. Judging Wisdom is more than often the only option open to a raiding Ret Paladin, further pushing their DPS Seal and rotation towards SotC over SoC. Stocar wouldn't allow double Ret (you and I) in The Council so I left and the officers in Luminous Force didn't allow double JotC either (would have been Smiter and I).

Smiter uses every consumable available - he doesn't slouch.

I'm using Blade of Hanna (2.1 speed) over The Untamed Blade (3.4 speed) due to its OP swing speed when used with SotC (1.5 speed)for max Vengeance uptime and Lifesteal procs.

TLDR - Ret's gear and dps rotation is 100% dependant on what gear they have access to, what debuff they are allowed to put up and what swing speed their weapon is.

Theo , the problem here is that "from all the gear" he have 0 intellect and no balance at all , this is major nerf to the DPS , socom is better at any case from 3.0 weapon speed ++ due to it's judgement boosting the dps and vengeance.

nevertheless taking rank 5 - rank 6 pvp is not hard at all , we all agree that current patch blue and epic pvp sets are Best in Slot.

other than that , farming the dungeons i have seen good items around such as Hunter shoulders, lightforge etc.

also we should not forget about Zul Gurub where he can also gain easy pala sets , that gives him quite good stats for Retribution in order to increase the DPS.

his dps is low with all the consumes and his Gear is "Warrior" oriented which is terrible for PVE , that's all the point that i am trying to say there.

he should never have problem with mana if he use proper gear and he can always use max ranks with proper consumes to uptime full amount and maximum dps.

Then why people like Holystrike not make a real guide for the ret? With the right Items for the different Patches and so on? and what consumeables specific to use blabla?

You attack Smiter for starting something, maybe there are wrong things about it. But if you know it so much better why dont you make it or simply help him make it better instead of attacking him?

I think there are a lot Paladins that would appreciate it.

Duki, no one is going to hit the Hit cap by wearing nothing but Lightforge or Hunter gear - similarly SoC when it does proc from a 3.0 swing speed weapon is going to be shite due to very low top end damage and no STR on hunter gear either. Similarly, we don't have any spell dmg on any of our tier gear (except for PvP blue/purple sets).

What good are your DD spells or procs if they hit like a wet noodle?

SotC and warrior/dps offset gear are a good substitute to use for the reasons I stated earlier:

- guild refuses to allow the Ret Paladin to put up a single JotC (let alone allowing multiple Rets for JotC stacking)
- 2handed weapon swing speed is under 3.5 (all MC and most BWL 2handed weapons are 3.4 or faster)
- SotC's 40% melee haste provides great Vengeance uptime (i.e. Blade of Hanna 2.1 to 1.5 swing speed with SotC)
- SotC providing a significant attack power bonus that not only boosts white dmg but also Consecration
- SotC with JoW provides good mana regen allowing for max rank Consecration usage

You are looking at Vanilla WoW from the perspective of actual WoW Vanilla made by Blizzard with spells/abilities/talents that actually worked properly - not this bugged as fcuk private mangos server that we have to try and deal with due to the realities of the server we play on.

TLDR - we have to play the cards that we are dealt with here on Nostalrius - simple as that.

I thought thats what I was doing and he responded aggressively when I put the DPS he was boasting in perspective...

Holystrike wrote:if you are using R1 SoCom or Consec you are skimping on mana consumables you should always use max rank,

also you only listed roids, not including scorpok salt, any raiding ret should have both as they are unique.

You should never use flask of distilled wisdom over supreme power, that is nerfing your dps output.

Also a ret should use of oil of immolation on relevant fights

As far as guides go Killerduki has outlined alot of good strategy's within his guide for any starting out ret, and as far as gear Paladins with gear like Talesavo (hes R13 so that might not be something you are interested in pursuing) or myself with the R12 gear being switched out for PvP Blues as something to work toward.

A Ret paladin's goal in pve should be a minimum of 3500 mana unbuffed, 8% hit, followed by Agility (scaling Crit), Crit, Spell Damage, Strength (scaling AP) and then finally AP

========================================================================================
CURRENT PRE-RAID BIS?
Just whipped this up off the top of my head (So I havent cross-checked any gear) but this would give you a solid start on Crit, AP, Mana while offering 5% hit (While not forcing the player to break the bank or farm ridiculous gear)(youd still need int/mana enchants to ballance out the gear):
Head: Lionheart Helm
Neck: Mark of Fordring
Shoulders: Lieutenant Commander's Lamellar Shoulders
Chest: Ogre Forged Hauberk
Gloves: Knight-Lieutenant's Lamellar Gauntlets
Bracers: Battleborn Armbraces
Belt: Belt of Preserved Heads
Legs: Leggings of Destruction
Boots: Knight-Lieutenant's Lamellar Sabatons
Ring: Don Julio's Band
Ring: Painweaver Band
Trinket: Darkmoon Card: Maelstrom
Trinket: Hand of Justice
Back: Cape of the Black Baron

Total Unbuffed Equipped Stats (Not-Enchanted):
Str = 197.5
Agi = 135.4
Stam = 196.8
Int = 122.1
Spirit = 82
AP = 903
Crit = 19.75%
hit = 8%
Spell Dmg = 78
HP = 3169
Mana = 3063.5

Enchants:
Head: 8 Int (120 Mana)
Chest: 100 Mana
Hands: 7 Str
Legs: 8 Int (120 Mana)
Back: 3 Agi
Wrists: 7 Int (105 Mana)
Feet: 7 Agi

And that will give you over 3500 mana(Minimum Requirement), with 8% hit, spell damage and solid crit chance offering a far superior gear set-up allowing for max rank rotations.

once i had such experience to reveal such things , but sadly and as usually it end up derailed by trolls.

So i guess i won't be doing anything like that. i will just help people when they ask with advice, but nothing more than that.
