I just read this post and i wish to share my opinion to all WITHOUT ANIMOSITY!

i main warrior ank since november 2004 (offplayed shammy resto and druid ofttank) and i did also, in end vanilla retail a paladin tank.

After lot of time (wotlk era) i restarted play in many vanilla private servers , from reign of chaos up to nostlarious throiugh wow feenix.
I will share my idea:

starting from Cysthen tankadin guide assumptions

> Most people will think you're completely useless.
> If you don't use consumables, you're completely useless.
> If you have anything less than the BIS preraid list I give, you're completely useless.
> If you think Soulforge is good for any spec pve, you're completely useless.
> You have to be VERY dedicated to even have a chance at making this work.


all these things are TRUE. Unlike other tanks (warrior and druid) a paldin have to be constantly fueled by TONS of consumables and dedication. To talk roughly to new paladins, while warriors can afk in orgrimmar/ironforge when they got theyr basic flask+scroll and some food, you must farm 24/7 for your consumables which are TONS!
For example:

The EXTREME MINIMUM amount you will need. I will list more you can use after this list.

Elixir of the Mongoose x20 (25 Agility 2% Crit).
Elixir of Greater Intellect x20 (25 Intellect).
Greater Arcane Elixir x20 (35 Spell damage).
Mageblood Potion x20 (12 Mana per 5).
Brilliant Wizard Oil Try to have at least 4 charges for any raid you do. (36 Spell damage, 1% Spell crit). (Good for both Tank and Conc Swap Weapons).
Brilliant Mana Oil Good to have a few charges in case you are needed to put on a heal set. (12 Mana per 5, and 25 Healing).
Demonic Rune x20 (Restores 900 to 1500 Mana, Hurts you for 600 to 1000, some of this can be resisted, watch your health bar before you use this).
Major Mana Potion x20 (Restores 1350 to 2250 Mana).
Tender Wolf Steak x20 (16 Stamina).
Flask of Titans x2 (Not really needed in 20 mans but smart to use starting out). (Gives 1200 more health).
Flask of Distilled Wisdom x2 (If asked to heal these are nice to carry around). (Gives 2000 more mana).

all these elitlist forget one thing: paladin is, like druid and shaman , a HYBRID class so ofc is more complicated to tank with it unlike warriors where you press taunt button and all fer goes away...
Paladin, as far as my exp goes, have hard time getting gear aswell because you must mix some of caster playstyle (main hand weapon like Sageblade with standard tanking gear like warriors.

They dont have a TANK TIER, unlike warriors. So forget any tier bonuses.

So you miught wander, why rolling it?

Well i can tell ya something: they are nice tanks indeed. Back in retail my guild completed up to khel thuzad (not downed due to tbc release) with paladin offtanking naxxramas (i was main tank warrior back there) and we had no problems.
Ofc you must tkae serious the gameplay, know mechanics and a lot of theorycrafting.
paladins also got some benefits unlike warrior that makes em shine:

Consecration: no other tank can withstand your aoe agro. NO ONE. you can pull a whole room of mobs and go afk after cons rank 5 is casted (fak holy waters in stratholme lol) i did it tons of time and i assure you will grin a lot!
Cleanse: self dispel while warrior must hope on healers. if healer sve global on you for dispelling it may cast more heals.
Blessing of Protection:Obvious protection on people if you lose aggro, also if you have 2nd aggro you can bubble the person with the highest threat as a form of taunt. Can be useful at times.

apart all these good things i said is not true that tankading DO NOT have taunt.
Improved fury+judgement ar a taunt like spell, it takes a uberload of uber dps to loose aggro like that! personally never had problems of mobs running away from me afer i judged em (bosses and trashes alike)

so why ppl dont like pala tanks?
easy: first tehy are hard to gear and "grow up" it means that most ppl will see you as a garbage tank / offhealer/buff refresher
which brings to

world first kill mentality: i never understood ppl aiming to first kill while this game was 11 years old lol. Yet many guilds ask a healer because a pala healer perform bettter "in their pro view"

no taunt omgomgomgom!!!oneonenoeno!!!!: false, read above... also fdruid and tank warr got one taunt+one aoe and no more and main taunt is 5 yard range while ur judgement is 10 (igf a mob escape ur threap BOp the ain aggroer and judge mob you will see ifg i say the false)

tankadins are nice help the tank community get more pallys and laugh hard when you see the people change their minds!

Anyway remember - KT biggest problem for Warriors is Aggro when he Wipe out his Threats,
(Same as 70% of Bossfights that are Immune to Taunt!)

Paladin in other hand can Judge+Exorcism for Aggro Bitch! , and our Taunt (BoP) is not affected by Taunt immune from Boss.

The only difference between me and Cystheen Tanking is (i use all the time SP weapon for Holy Shield,SoR,JoR,Consecration) , (he use SP weapon only for Consecration) .
