Pre-60 dungeons - What gear do you roll on?

Pre-60 dungeons - What gear do you roll on?

by Karik » Tue May 05, 2015 3:18 pm

Right now, I'm able to fulfill any role in a dungeon. Some runs I end up healing. In others I'm the tank. This means I could use both a set of +STA mail (soon plate) gear and +INT gear.

Tanks and melee DPS call dibs on STR stuff while casters throw a fit if you try to roll on cloth (not like +INT mail drops).

Since we're always stepping on somebody's toes how do you determine what you roll on in groups? Do you always pick up STR/STA regardless or do you go by your current role in that dungeon?

I don't want to come across as a douche so I figured I'd ask how you guys go about it. Thanks for any insight you might have.

Been having the same dilemma. I feel bad rolling on cloth gear when clothies need it lol. Shame that I have to hope for good deals on "of the gorilla" or "of the eagle" on the ah as I level. However, as end game nears I will be a needy beast. Luckily we don't have shaman to compete with so as long as a hunter isn't in GRP we can roll on all mail items.

I also decided to try a paladin this time and loot is something that bugs me too, especially since I am kind of masochistic and skilled holy/ret (even lower damage, I am glad about every piece of equip that speeds up soloquesting but in dungeons I usually heal).

This is what I do atm (lvl 42):
Since good dungeon equip is usually better than affordable ah stuff I decided to roll for ret equip in dungeons (I spend much more time soloquesting than healing thus I benefit more from ret equip).
I only roll on cloth / leather / mail equip if dmg casters dont need it or I simply buy cheap healing / int equip from the ah (dmg casters benefit much more from it than me and cheap ah stuff does the trick well enough in low level dungeons when healing unless your group is really bad, even if I wasn't hybrid skilled).

When joining a group as a healer I tell them I'll pass on caster equip if other players need it but I'll roll on ret equip due to being hybrid skilled and ask if they mind.
If they do I simply leave and search a new group, usually they dont since healers are rare and everyone with a bit of brain knows our vanilla hybrid dilemma.

However, I had less intelligent players complaining anyways when rolling on ret gear even when telling them before and there will be a point where cheap ah gear will seriously drag us down in higher level dungeons while healing...

At least I have something to look forward to at 40+.

This makes a ton of sense. I can always make do with a green healing set but having a good tank or solo set makes a huge difference. Thanks for the input guys!

TL;DR: Roll on melee gear, grab unwanted cloth and plug in the rest with greens from the auction house.
