Tanking dungeons while leveling

Tanking dungeons while leveling

by Funkazaur » Tue May 26, 2015 2:28 pm

So as title says I'd like to tank some dungeons while leveling, but after running Deadmines at lvl 19 I was barely able to hold any aggro, not even talking about groups of mobs. I seen people say, that paladins can tank 5mans quite easy without much problems, so I wonder is there anyt rotation for tanking as paladin? Or just some starter tips for tanking?

Tanking before lvl 20 is really ugly as a paladin.

The magical words are:

Consecration , Retribution Aura and Righteous Fury

Tips and Tricks for paladon lowlvl tanking:

- If u want to tank dungeons while lvling make sure to spend your first 11 points into holy to get consecration.

- Consecration also deals nice dmg while leveling.

- You do not really need to use judgement at all while tanking leveling-inis.

- Spent your mana only on consecration and to refresh your seal every 30sec

- For maximum aggro use a seal that deals additional holy dmg as it will increase your aggro

- try to always refresh your seal right before or after using consecration as u want to have 1-2 mana ticks before u use your next consecration (5second-rule)

- use blessing of wisdom

- get gear with stamina and int , ignore strenght (look for "eagle"-gear on the auction house)

If you have any further questions feel free to ask :)

Thanks for the info.
Yeah I already got 11points into Holy tree for Consecration, so all that is left now, is to try this out and see how it goes. :)

a few ways to tank as a paladin.
Traditional tanking is first starting with holy, to get your AOE.
This is what your Talents should look like while you level up. once you get closer you can go into ret and point 5 into benediction leaving the last for into deflection, or you can go back into the holy tree/prot tree and fill them in as you see fit. a few alternative ideas, King, Improved Devotion, improved Lay on Hands.
Alternative talent builds can vary. Going 31 holy may sound crazy, but for dungeons it can be done. Raids is another story. This would be a spec to consider. it doesn't give you Holy shield or Blessing of sanctuary, but it has Holy shock which is good choice for a Taunt spell alternative since we do not have one. (not even prot can do that), Spi focus and Concentration aura make sure your heals are uninterrupted if you need to do that, not to mention it makes nifty leveling spec if you decide to solo stuff.
The benefit also is If you don't tank, you could save up some healing gear and heal if someone else is wanting to tank.
Ret is also good for tanking if you have the gear. I have done that plenty of times, but as always with any spec, it takes a lot of time, practice, and dedication to be effective at all. If you ever decide to raid as prot, its tons more works farming consumable and what not just to stand NEXT to warriors. Best of luck & I hope you enjoy playing because that is the reason most of all.

The basics are you need to use your aoe damage and switch targets. Don't lose aggro on ANYTHING.

Get as much stanima as you can from gear, and then look for agility for block / dodge and increased armor. Get some strength too for your DPS. Make sure your gear is close to your level and has a bunch of armor factor.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Have fun / Enjoy.

Sorry about the talent links being broken, seems the site is down so I made a talent calculator thread HERE, while posting my own Tankadin gear/Spec guide HERE.

When tanking, the seal that you keep up is always seal of righteousness? I'm guessing it is based on what I read on these forums, but wanted to get confirmation on that.

Since I usually tank 2 to 3 mobs at a time, I use Seal of the Crusader as the AP bonus boosts Consecration dmg which is better overall for AOE tanking - but that's how I roll - use whatever seal you find works best for you.

I like the idea of higher attack speed over higher damage. On a Warrior I always felt aggro generation was higher with faster attack speed, but warriors are a different story and rage generation has its own mechanics.

I'm asking merely because I see people saying to put points on 15% more damage on seal of righteousness damage, so I presumed it was used while tanking since these are tanking builds.
