In its current (bugged) state, is it worth taking, or should I put the point elsewhere? I'm currently following Theloras's 11/9/31 spec until 51, when I will transition to a proper Prot spec.

Levelling up you are better off putting 2/2 points into Imp Ret Aura - that's what I did here on Nostalrius - having an extra +10 reflected Holy dmg to any mobs hitting you adds up.

Otherwise, you can spec into the Prot tree and go for a Reckoning spec - that's what I currently am and I 1shot Reck bomb farm horde nubs at Light's Hope Chapel all day erry day

ProTip - if you do go Reck spec, don't use Ret Aura as it is bugged here when paired with Reckoning - whenever Ret Aura goes off, it triggers your Reck charges so use Devotion or a Resistance Aura.

why don't you use prot spec? increases the agro by righteous fury + more surviving.
1 consecration max rank is more than enough the rest retri aura and sanctuary will do their job.
also go divine intellect for extra mana
improved sor is none important for leveling since agro is cake and most of time you go for jow/sow for full mana while aoe adds.

Duki, I'm doing Theloras's spec right now because I'm not yet at the point where one NEEDS a full on Prot spec to be able to tank content (level 32, atm), and a Ret heavy spec can greatly speed the leveling process.

Although I have no problems with aggro vs. a group where the DPS are not opening up the instant the pull first happens, I HAVE noticed that with only 5/5 Redoubt in the Prot tree, I am a little squishy, which has lead to a couple of problems in Gnomer with the Dorfs, but nothing that I haven't been able to solve by investing in level appropriate consumables and having the Hunter pull from time to time.

That said, if you know of a way that I can level effectively with a proper Prot spec, I'm all ears.

no problem because i tank as prot at that level without any surviving issue. Pulling Massive 2-3 groups and barely oom. + always on top of damage.

People that comes with me usual say that any tanks are squishy but this is because people avoid to get full gear before they head to the next level dungeons .

Even 5 mans require descent surviving and gear requirement .

Example : in Deadmine i had some random green shield and was blocking 11 damage.
After a while i got Shield from SFK and start blocking 17 damage.
My HP at current level (28) is 1100 unbuffed with 1600 armor (without devo) .

Anyway if you want fast leveling as Prot. Just farm massive Dungeons nothing else.
Noneed to do quest at all . maybe dungeons quests but 1-2 runs = 1/5-2 levels easy pissy.

p.s only issue i got are paladin healers and fury/arms warriors that ninja my tanking gear there >.< (example shields with str/sta) .

I last logged out with my 2h weapon, but when tanking, I use the sword from Electrocutioner, and the Aegis of Darkshire.

Also, the other reason I use Theloras's spec is because sometimes (not often, mid you) the group already has a tank, and would rather I heal. Granted, I would rather tank, if given the choice, but just like Pallies were given a Prot trree for a reason, we were also given heal spells for a reason.

Also, I've learned that you were a big time Maintankadin on ...That Other Server, so I am no longer willing to dismiss Div Int out of hand, but I also have found that Imp SoR can save me mana by allowing me to not have to judge/reseal as often during a fight. Do you have any numbers for what a Tankadin's mana pool looks like before and after Div Int?

Finally, since my OP, I have leveled up. If I were to go full prot + consc right now, I would have 3 points to spread between Imp RF and Shield Spec. Clearly I want to eventually max both, but how would you recommend I spend what I have right now (level 33)?

well i'd agree with your point of view with theoloras spec you can either heal or tank or dps which is true.

anyway we have many options right that is perfect for us paladins.

About my Theory for maintanking i will point some things only which i don't expect many to agree with :

When i go to raids with all consumes (we still need buff limit for surviving) so i rather not use many but still use 1-2 intellect consumes depend on the fight and situation .

Without Divine Intellect in my personal "consumes way" (can mention them if you ask) i usual have 3k Mana which is kinda too low.
With Divine Intellect in my personal way explained i go up to 4.5k-5k mana.

This Mana Pool allows me to "manipulate" , "control" on many stuffs including spamming "holy shield" always.

It all depend but :
Why i always choose this over improved sor ?

I already use Spell Damage Weapon + Spell Damage enchant on weapon + Brilliant Wizard Oil + Greater Arcane Elixir which clearly increases my threats enormous high from Seal of Righteousness without using that Talent tree .

So my mana usual is wasted on important abilities as Holy Shield and sometime (depend on situation without spamming too much) but always Max Rank consecration.

I don't really waste mana on targets using the spell damage when tanking boss for example while i hit with melee swings (sor) to build aggro .

what i do is : pre pull - Seal of righteous - holy shield - run to boss with - judgement of righteous - reseal sor - 1-2 sor swings - seal of crusade - judge of crusade - seal of righteous - reseal sor once each 30 seconds - chat on facebook or drink coffee until the end of fight when everyone use their max dps on boss .

holy shield during fight i use only if boss hit hard . nothing else matter , just pop stoneshield potion and enjoy drinking your coffee.

(using 80-110 on current patch) spell damage only by weapon solve all aggro issues and makes you aggro machine on 1 target without consecration and without improved seal of righteous . at a same time we don't risk surviving so everything else i go for tank gear.

in few words theory is simple but kinda reading it is complicated to understand by many people.

Duki, it seems to me that your numbers for mana before and after Div Int are mathematically impossible. Div Int increases your INT by 10% when you max it, but your INT doesn't account for all your mana, as you gain flat mana in small, varying increments as you level from 1-60; gains which are completely independent of your INT, and therefor, unaffected by Div Int. This would suggest that Div Int accounts for less than 10% of any Paladin's mana pool @ 60, even when maxxed, but your numbers indicate an increase of 50%-66.66%. I suspect your before and after numbers are also before and after consumables, and not just Div Int.

I talk about how much increase Divine Intellect gives me when i use consumes and full raid buffs.

With Divine Intellect or without Divine Intellect counted on previous reply are for "consumes and raid buffs" (too lazy sometime to explain everything ) .

Example during raid fully buffed (with consumes and mage buff/kings etc)
Without Divine Intellect i go up to 3k (maybe i am wrong with 500 mana) .
Using the same with Divine Intellect i go up to 4.5k or 5k (somewhere between) .

This extra 1k Mana allows me to have full control over things + spam more often Holy Shield for good surviving.
(control over things mean the duration timing of "demonic runes" "major mana potions")
so i don't go oom or i dont go drink at all during raid (pretty rare like so low during breaks or almost never depend).

Meanwhile because i use spell damage weapon i don't need to spend 5 points on improved seal of righteous as my maintarget tps is already too high from it.

Divine Intellect overall is much better and efficient for raid compare to improved sor . (aoe stuffs , trash clear , surviving , not wasting raid time etc).


Example Kings increase stats (which mean increase intellect too) and Divine Intellect increase the intellect gain by Kings too .
Mage buff (greater) increases intellect and Divine Intellect increase this intellect gain by Mage Buff.
Juju in Winterspring increases intellect and Divine Intellect increase this intellect gain by juju.
Elixir of (forgot the name) increases intellect and Divine Intellect increases this intellect gain by Elixir.

(now if you combine mage buff + juju + elixir so you increase them + by Kings) all these in combination gives good result with Divine Intellect.

That would still be 10% of your (buffed) intellect. So the difference between full buffed manapool with devine intellect compared to a full buffed manapool without devine intellect can be 10%.

But it will always be less then 10% as not of all your mana is gained through intellect which someone stated before in the thread.
