As the title says, I would like to know if lvling paladin with weapon and shield is viable, because I've already lvl'd ret once so I would like to try out something new. While lvling I would like to tank dungeons if possible, because from what I've seen there is a serious shortage of tanks while lvling.

rest is a choice (ret or prot or holy) .

(my choice personally) is 11 to consecration and then i start building the prot raid spec.

Yes, it's possible, but contingent around always being able to assemble a dungeon group in a timely manner.

@ 51, feel free to take Div Int over Imp SoR if you feel like it. I prefer Imp SoR as it is a 15% threat increase on your main single target threat abilities, but only if you have no spell damage (which you likely won't until 1.9).

Soloing will ALWAYS be much faster, but if you plan on being a Tank @ endgame (like me) and need to learn what the hell you are doing along the way (again, like me), it is doable, but WILL take you longer.

I level as holy, and use 1h, works just fine.

This is a must imo for any level'r

Isn't it kinda exhausting for your character to fight multiple mobs? Even though you have cons for nice aoe dmg, having a couple of mobs fighting you will surely get you very low on mana and hp at the end, so you would have to eat and drink alot? In comparison to that you have the option of killing one mob at a time, which I've been doing as a retri paly, and as long as I was careful with my mana and watching the 5 second rule, I would rarely have any downtime.

Did you watch the videos i posted?

i always use max rank consecration there.

The videos you posted are about tanking, and what I'm asking is if fighting 2,3 mobs at the same time is viable, because such a fight would leave you low on hp and mana, while killing mobs one by one you rarely have any downtime.

For me as holy paladin, Mana isnt an issue. keep in mind I have gear that is dps for leveling, and I heal for dungeon with a different set of gear. The healing gear would kill me if i used it for DPS. but stuff like Imp Wisdom, Illumination+Divine Favor+Holy Shock help me do good dmg, and get my mana back, while still being able to Max out on AOE for multiple Mobs.

My wife levels as Ret and she clearly does more dmg then I do. but even as Holy I used the same basic method Duki does in his videos. Granted you asked about ret, my wife (which is ret) uses the same basic concept but with a 2hander and ret talents (after the first 11 points into holy for aoe)

My paladin alt is level 41 leveling Prot/Holy. I pull around 4-5 mobs at a time then maybe 1-2 to regen off of. No downtime at all.

I use BoW, SotC, Ret aura, and Max Rank/Rank1 Consecration depending on the mobs.

For the single/double pull to regen I use JoW+SoW and once I auto back up to roughly 90% mana I swap to SotC.

Don't ever worry about wasting a judgement when aoe grinding. Just keep SotC on and keep on trucking.

Edit: All of my gear is AP>Str>Stam priority for grinding. If you pull too much swap to Concentration aura, spam rank 1 Consecration on Cool down and spam rank 1 flash of light. You'll usually oom, but finish with full hp just takes a bit longer during the regen pull to recover. I always take the interruption prevention talents in tier 2 holy tree for leveling for that reason. Allows you to be super safe and super greedy on pulls.
