Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

Given the impending release, I finally got around to doing the math around a Spell Power focused build using Seal of Righteousness versus the traditional 2H build focused on stacking mostly Attack Power. This math assumes you are a Human, as their racial means they require 1% less hit from gear to make hit cap.

SoR Base Damage w/ Ironfoe: 50 (20.833 DPS)
SoR Talented Base Damage: 57.5 (23.958 DPS)
SoR Base Scaling: 12.2% SP, 24.4% Holy Power (5.083% SP DPS, 10.167% Holy Power DPS)
SoR Talented Scaling: 15.13% SP, 30.87% Holy Power (6.304% SP DPS, 12.608% Holy Power DPS)

This BiS list uses R10 set instead of the R13 set because the 23 SP bonus can be achieved with only 2 pieces of the R10 set, whereas to achieve the 23 SP bonus with the R13 set, you would need to equip the entire set, which results in a loss of equivalence points when considering the hit cap.

2H beats SP by 0.667% (yes, 0.667%)


So, SP Ret in current gear is on par with 2H Ret on average. However, 2H Ret has the higher potential, as Seal of Command isn't set to a hard PPM, but a soft PPM, meaning it could possibly proc every swing on a fight. However, over extremely large sample sizes, you will see a proc rate of 7 procs per minute. This means that the actual DPS of the traditional 2H Ret build will vary greatly from fight to fight, whereas SP Ret is much more consistent.

With AQ coming out, SP Ret will surpass 2H Ret as SP gear becomes much more readily available, and 2H Ret will be stuck with Ashkandi until Naxxramas. SP Ret has the advantage of scaling better with gear than 2H Ret.

The problem are calculations :

Weapon Damage: (Damage + AP * Weapon Speed / 14) x 1.06

This is wrong formula.

Weapon Damage should be independent from Attack Power when you add to Seal of Command

Seal of Command is 70% weap damage + 1 Damage from 14 AP + SP Coefficient.

Seal of Command Damage: Weapon Damage x 0.70 + (1 / 14 AP) + 22% SP + 125% Holy Power

1 / 14 AP = 0.007142857.......

14 / 14 AP = 1 Damage.

Regarding Seal of Righteousness :

In server this is completely bugged and terrible .

9.2% per 1.0 weapon speed * 2.20 (weapon speed) = 20.24% (increased spell damage by judgement of the crusade)
20 / 20.24% = 4.048 (damage increase by judgement of the crusade)

1.9312256 (seal of righteousness damage) + 4.048 (damage increase by judgement of the crusade) = 5.9792256 (judgement of the crusade + Seal of righteousness)

assuming the AP (according to wowwiki 220 AP=1 or 2 damage)

example with 220 ap = 1 damage assuming
(21 Ap unbuffed + 20 from blessing of might) = 41 (Attack Power)
(assuming 1 damage) 41 / 220 = 0.18636363636363636363636363636364 from AP

The level 32 paladin is using heavy spear (can be seen at the end) and he has Consecration, which means he might have used points in Improved Seal of Righteousness (but we don't know). Also he is using Rank 4 Seal of Righteousness

Your Intellect Calculations makes no sense at all .

Mana requirement for normal raid fights is 17 k , this make Intellect + mana consumes most valuable and highest stat until you reach this point for Maximum DPS.
