Arcane Power Frost

Hello, I have a question

or

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#oVMVcofquZVVG000x

I've played around without Shatter, but, as I've always played deep into Frost, I want it. The first wouldn't allow for as many crits as the second, but the damage would be better (talking about a frozen target). Frostbolt Arcane Power crits

If you're interested for a PvE Arcane frost spec our only viable build atm is this one http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#of0E0ofquZVA0c0s

I was taking Frostbite cuz I'm still level 56, and it's proven to be handy in solo situations.

But thanks, I'm gonna try it out!

OP,

For 40 man raids the 2 specs to go are either deep frost (winter's chill) or AP/frost. Ideally you want to have at LEAST one deep frost mage for the +10% FB critical for the other mages. Typically the better geared mages run the AP build and the newbies get forced to provide winter's chill. However if you have the option to choose you should see what better fits your playstyle.

I am currently AP frost, but I recently respec'd from deep frost. Personally I prefer to be AP for raids. You lose out on having +10% critical FB without other mages around, and you lose Ice barrier which is very nice to have to prevent spell pushback and give the healers a break. In return, your FBs will consistently hit harder and most importantly you mana efficiency will be twice as greater than going through the deep frost route. The AP spec leaves u very vulnerable especially when soloing and in pvp while going 31 frost gives you more room to do other things outside of raids.

Either spec you do, avoid picking up shatter, as you need these talent points to max out +100% critical damage, piercing ice, and frost channeling. My spec is exactly what the second poster linked, except I prefer 2 pts in imp. Dampen magic instead of imp countrrspell.

I've leveled as arcane frost (don't ask me why), and I haven't really mised frostbite nor shatter for soloing purposes at all.

So, I've tried the spec in the above link and liked it a lot.

Now I've been playing elemental for a few days, and am about to respec back to AP (right this moment). I'll be mostly doing dungeons for now.

Thanks for your replies!

Shatter is useless if you're raiding.

That being said, it's a fallacy when people say that only frost is viable in MC and BWL. A handful of fire mages with combustion and rolling ignites is unbelievable up to a point where it's OP. When we cleared Naxx pretty much all mages were forced to spec fire.

It's not that it is the only viable spec, but frost is so much better that fire isn't even considered for MC and BWL. Outside of those two raids, I'll take fire any day, but the fact that deep frost is THE option in these two isn't really an opinion.

MC/BWL is fire based dungeon. Frost mage does best in it.
Naxx is frost based dungeon. Fire mage does best in it.

Common sense really.

But that's not how it works or rather, works. From what I remember the bosses in MC don't have higher fire resist than your regular boss. Sure, the trash might, but who cares about trash. But again, that was 10 years ago. My memory is a bit foggy. But I'm willing to bet that if you take a group of 5 pre-ignite nerf fire mages into MC, they'll blow away 5 frost mages. They were plain OP. Rolling ignites were legendary.
