Arcane Focus - Necessary in PvP?

Arcane Focus - Necessary in PvP?

by TheFishyOne » Mon Jun 22, 2015 12:32 pm

So I'm in the process of planning my PvP Mage's 60 spec (17/34), and although I have the Frost talents down, I am wondering whether or not to put 2 points into Arcane Focus to cap my hit chance for sheeping in PvP. I didn't PvP on live until well into TBC, so I'm not sure how easy it is to find hit gear at 60 without raiding or having acess to r10+ gear.

And if it's not worth it, is Magic Absorption any good?

The hit really comes in handy with counterspell more than with polymorph in my opinion. It's not 'necessary', but why wouldn't you?

2/2 Arcane Subtlety
5/5 Arcane Focus
5/5 Clearcasting
2/2 Dampen Magic
1/1 Arcane Resilience
2/2 Imp CS

I'm listing that because I'm not sure why you'd deviate from that lineup unless you'd really like to have Magic Absorption; I'm not sure where else your talent points should go other than Arcane Focus.

For a strict PvP build, 5/5 Arc Focus is pointless, since it overcaps you by 7%, even with no spell hit.

I'd take 2/5, tops (assuming no spell hit on gear) unless you also raid a fair bit.
