Leveling a Mage...

Leveling a Mage...

by dhurley94 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 10:38 pm

I'm a level 15 Mage, never played Vanilla as a Mage before. Whats the best spec to use and just some general tips would be great. I've seen on other forums that the most popular choice of leveling is AoE frost but with the amount of people and waiting for mobs to spawn, i don't think that will be the most effective.

Maybe when you fought enemies you probably have noticed how many times you see chain"resist" on your screen.
The first talents you should pick no matter what spec you intend to level with is -Elemental Precision.
This will save you mana and probably save your life more than a few times imho.It really makes a difference!

Most mages go frost because it offers them control and survivability but it is very, very,VERY ,mind numbingly, horribly boring until you get the talent Shatter in the frost tree.

To really feel the power of the frost tree you must be around lvl 25-30 when you can invest in Shatter and crit every time your enemy is frozen.

If you can spare the gold -go as fire until 30 and then respec to frost. If you want to save money go full frost from the beginning.

Btw this thread seems a few days old. You've probably figured out what do to already, but whatever.

Leveling in fire is much more funny, same for pvp. U can destruct everything in bg with ur dps output without shatter. So i think elem is just best spec

Yes, as long as none targets you. I'll recommend frost if u want to do some world PvP while you are leveling. It will give you some survivability and a lot of control. If you can start a fight, fire is better, but if you get jumped, frost is the only answer.

Frost is really useful when dealing with large monsters, such as elites.

currently leveling frost but i notice that fire mages do a bit more burst damage than i do, however i'm able to aoe pull quest mobs so it's somewhat of a trade off- aoe a bit stronger in frost single target a bit stronger in fire.
