Can't talk in /1 and /2

I'm fairly new to Nostalrius and i'm enjoying the experience so far. However I can't seem to talk in general or trade chat. Is there something you have to do in order to be able to, or is it just bugged out?

Inside the game type the following:
/leave 1
and after that:
/join General

Everything should work properly now.
