Reinstalled OS and didnt back up nostalrius files

by mikeedub » Wed Oct 21, 2015 5:57 am

Just as the name suggests, i had to reinstall my operating system due to computer problems and I didn't back up my nostalrius and Vanilla WoW files. I redownloaded the game and now I lost my characters, how can I get them back?

Characters are not saved on your computer, they are saved on the Nostalrius server. To get them back all you need to do is log into your account that you were previously using with your password. Neither the account name nor the password would have changed.

Make sure your realmlist.wtf file is correctly pointing at Nost. It should have the following line in it:
set realmlist login.nostalrius.org

I'm also having this problem currently. I've tried to log on to my character on a different computer and it shows him but when I click "Play" it takes me to the loading screen and freezes at 100% I would believe it's because I don't have my character files. Can you please help me?

^^ This may be a different problem. Often when I log in, and click "Play" it takes me to the loading screen and freezes at 100%. If it stays there for a few 10s of seconds, what I do is kill the client using Force Quit (Cmd-Shift-Esc) and then restart the client. The next time I try to log in it works (usually). I did have it happen twice in a row once.

Obviously, the above shows that I'm playing on a Mac client. So if you are also, then it's applicable - just try again. If you are on a Windows client, then use the Task Manager to kill the application, start it again and see if that fixes it.

Hopefully that helps.
