Ban Appeal

by Thefilth » Mon Apr 06, 2015 7:22 pm

Hi team,

So uhm.. I went ahead and figured out how to do coloured text. You know the stuff people do all the time in world chat? Well I found out and tested the method. It worked like a charm.

I was going to use it for my LFG/LFM posts, but first I had to check with the GMs if it was allowed to use it. So I did.
The GM told me it wasn't allowed, so I thanked him and relogged to get rid of the effect.
BAM! Chatbanned for 7 hours and subsequently temp. banned for an unknown duration.

Really team.. really?...

This is from your own TOU!

VI - Sanctions

Warnings regarding accounts are saved and archived. Some sanctions can be applied without any previous warning. It will depend on the case and its seriousness.

List of sanctions that can be applied on Nostalrius :

A - Warning : For minor sanction, a warning is first given to inform a player about the rules and warn him about future sanctions.

Examples :
Spam,
Abuse of public discussion channel for private matters,
Irrelevant subject,
Re-open a closed forum subject from moderator by creating a new thread,
Insults, taunts or "trolls"
Publication of a message in the forum in the wrong section

B - In-game mute : Disable the chat of a player who had already received a warning.

C - Account interruption for 3 hours : Given to player who had already received a warning. It is used to reinforce warnings and to sanction a violation of the rules.

Examples :
Repeating offense after warning,
Abuse of assistance system (forum or in-game),
Racist or offensive sentiments,
Pornographic links,
Lack of respect towards the server or the staff members,
Using color changing scripts in-game,
Player harassment,
Going in forbidden / not-released areas.

So for simply contacting the GM to ask him if it's allowed, I get all 3 punishments in a single go? ... Baffling.
Just for clarification. I never received any warning. I did received a mute a few seconds before receiving the ban. It's not like as if I could've made another violation while muted, even if I tried. ... Gruesome.

Yes, I realise it's actually in there. I'm sorry I didn't remember that.

That's just wrong. Yes, you were using it. But, instead of you being punished for using it without a care. You asked a GM for confirmation, due to you didn't see that part of the ToS you agreed upon. The GM should have just let you off since you DID at least come forward. It's not like you used it to abuse anyone, scam, harassment, nor impersonate.

I view it like Jay-walking. If you just did it, and walked over to a police station and simply asked. They wouldn't care about giving you a ticket, they'd simply say no. Just don't do it again.

Exactly. I'm wondering if the GM missclicked or lagged or something. Or if his girlfriend was watching the screen and he had to appear manly and powerful. Or if a plane crashed through his roof and landed on the ban button.

Alright, so now that I've (almost) served my unwarranted punishment (assuming it's 3 hours), I'd like some compensation.
To start with you can clear the record you've now mistakenly tainted with 3 violations that should only have been one (if any!!!!).

Turns out the ban is longer than 3 hours.

Wow.....................................

inb4 permabanned for minor minor MINOR offense without warning, while being upfront and questioning a GM about said offense.

It's a christmas miracle! The ban has lifted.

I'd still like to receive a pardon, to get rid of all those warnings and mutes and bans that I've now been flagged for, but never justly received.

The best thing to do is just tuck your head down and continue playing. Keep yourself clean and you won't have any problems from the staff.

Indeed, but the lines are blurry. Examples; inaccessible rooftop ganking is allowed, underground mining is not allowed, macros and scripts are allowed, scripts are not allowed (fine, it's understandable that colourtext isn't allowed, but I'm still bitter about the severity of the punishment I got from simply asking the GM if it was allowed or not).

I've talked to a GM online and he reduced my 7 day chatban to a more managable couple of hours that have long since passed.

For any reader who might care, the severity of the punishment stems from the fact that I whispered the GM who told me it wasn't allowed "Thanks" in coloured text, which was considered disrespectful, hence the insta 7daymute,3hourban,0warning punishment.

Just to be clear, I meant no disrespect, but the effect of the script stays on until you relog and I didn't want to lose the GM by logging off when he wrote to me, without first thanking him for telling me.
Sorry if I hurt your feelings GM, I truely meant no disrespect, merely to thank you for providing me the knowledge I wrote the ticket asking for.
