Cant change my resolution to 1920x1080

by redic » Tue Apr 07, 2015 1:22 pm

Hey guys,

I just started to play on Nostalrius and everything is fine but one thing. I cant change my resolution higher than 1280x800. My monitor is an 24" HDMI Monitor and definitely is able to use 1920x1080, as I use it on every other game. Any ideas? This resolution isnt even choosable ingame for me.

Cheers redic

Hi redic,

I was affected by this same bug and it seems to only display the supported resolution that all or some of your monitors support. Here's how I fixed it with an AMD grahpics card.

I have not tested it yet but you may be able to force the correct resolution in the ...\WTF\Config.WTF file by modifying SET gxResolution "1280x800" to SET gxResolution "1920x1080"

Thanks.

Go into your video card settings program (I haven't had Nvidia in a few years, so I don't remember the name). There should be an option to change direct X and open GL settings on a program by program basis. I did this back in 2008-2010 to get 720p 60hz (fps) for 720p HDTV as the game client didn't support that resolution and hz at the time for Nvidia cards. This was back in Wrath days. I don't know if Vanilla client would be any different as I can do 720/60 with my current ATI card without changing per app settings.

There's probably an easier way but the way I worked around it on an ATI Card was to create a custom resolution on my smaller monitor that matched the larger monitor then set the smaller monitor's proper resolution to display. If you're going to try than do it at your own risk. It looks like you can set it here in NVIDIA:
Image
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel
- Select Change Resolution
- Select the smaller Monitor
- Customize it to force the resolution that you want WoW to run at.
- Open Windows Screen Resolution by Right Clicking the Desktop and Select "Screen resolution".
- Adjust all Monitors to their appropriate Resolution and position.
- Set proper Resolution in WoW
