Scammers Masking as Auction House

by Baconweave » Wed Apr 15, 2015 5:06 am

I have received a letter in the mailbox, that stated the Auction House experienced an error and is refunding money. Upon clicking "Accept," I lost the amount specified which was 4 gold and some silver. I than discovered a second message from a user with a great name of Cunthead that simply read as "Scammed." I realize that clicking the unknown message is a nubile thing to do, but I have a pretty busy mailbox, and I don't always pay attention to what I read. Still, I have two questions.

Can I get my gold back somehow? And can the Cunthead who did it be banned, so no more people are fooled? The message a copy of which I still have closes with "Nostalrius Support Staff" which looks as bad as it sounds.

Thank you for your help,

Greetings,

Sadly, it's not possible to give you the gold back. Consider them gone forever.
The guy, Cunthead will receive his/her penalty. Thanks for the report. We prefer them over PM next time :)

I laugh every single time i see one of these posts. Its hilarious that NO ONE LEARNS EVER!!

These scams have been around for years, yes. years. Even on this server they have been around (most likely the same person or few people) since the first few weeks. Here we are, a month or so later - people still under the delusion that their stupid attempts at begging for money back will somehow work.

Reddit post of this happening before: http://www.reddit.com/r/NostalriusBegin ... your_mail/

Learn your lesson, get burned, get scammed, QQ/rage, and move on. Also, telling GM's to ban people or w/e is completely useless. The guy makes literally 50+ accounts which he uses to scam with. GM's can fix the problem by banning them, he just makes more so don't waste their time with this. It's your fault - this goes for everyone who falls for it.

Oh and IP banns are useless and have been forever. use a VPN to hide your true IP takes about 10 seconds.

I was expecting as much, but it never hurts to ask. I've successfully reimbursed the lost sum through good old farming and real AH in less than 2 hours. Contrary to the opinion of some commentators, "noobs" like me know how to make in-game money through in-game legal means.

Thanks for the PM advice. I'll do that once I see something suspicious.
