Cannot seem to use chat

I can whisper, I can see things others type, I can invite, but I cannot for some reason type in chat at all, it does not let me click

already lvl 10 and cannot complete some quests that require a group, has been quite an inconvenience,

When you say you cannot "use" chat, do you mean the game does not let you click your mouse pointer in the text field and begin typing, as in, can't initiate your own chat messages? Or, do you mean the game does allow you to click your mouse pointer in the text field and begin typing, but when you press Enter to send your message, your message doesn't appear in the chat channel?

If it's the former, there's a thread with a similar problem where a person is having trouble using the chat channels (General, Trade, Defense, etc.) that I believe is still on-going.

If it's the latter, there's also another thread where it's a known issue that sometimes the chat channels let you type messages but your messages don't post to the chat window. The fix is to /leave and /join the channel again.

I can click into player's names and whisper them though or /yell

I have not installed any addons

as im slowly progressing, a lot of quests at this point require a group and @#$@# its annoying because I cant type anything

edit: reinstalled wow twice and it somehow magically fixed itself
