Audio plays but screen says "invalid format" Windows 8

When I start the game it will open and show for a brief second but then goes blank and says "invalid format". I've had this problem with DayZ and they have a fix for it using a file and notepad to change the resolution. I cannot seem to find a file like this in the extracted files. Any solutions?
