My Chat is Broken, Help ! ( possible bug ) ?

Okay so ive been playing around a week, and one day all of a sudden im playing and nothing appears in the chat text box/chat log. I can see people talking as i can still see bubbles popping up but i cant access guild chat, general chat, lfg, or other necessary forms of contact. I can hear the sound of people logging on and off via guild notifications but nothing happens in chat.

Please Help, this is frustrating and is affecting my advancement throughout leveling.

With WoW closed, delete your WTF folder in your WoW folder, login, and see if chat behaves any differently.

My Wtf folder was already deleted due to another login area i had previously, i also forgot to mention that the problem only occurs on my main character, my alts chat works fine as they should just my main has the problem, thanks for the suggestion though.

If chat is working on your alts, try copying the chat file that your alts use over onto your main character in Windows Explorer. I'm not at my computer that has WoW installed presently but I know the chat file is buried under the World of Warcraft Classic\WTF\Accounts\%accountname% folder. I'll check when I get home and edit this post with more information.

Do you have several chat windows? Whenever i log in for some reason it's on my whispers tab by default.

Besides that, are you using a chat addon?

Average Joe, i still dont have a WTF folder as i deleted it due to another error, would this be part of the problem ?

It could be. Try running WoW as an administrator (Right-click the shortcut icon and select "Run as Administrator"). See if this creates a WTF folder after you're logged into your character and run around for a bit.

EDIT: I just remembered it's possible your WTF folder could also be buried under the AppData folder depending on your installation. Let me see if I can find that path to browse to so you can check that as well.

Thank you for your time mate, the opening Wow in administrator is what fixed it.

Huzzah!

You may have to set WoW to run as an administrator all the time. I seem to recall for other users that running WoW as an admin worked but the minute they tried to run it as a normal user, things broke again. You may have to the set the Compatibility property for your Wow.exe to always "Run as Administrator" so you never encounter these problems again.
