Channel bug

Sometimes you can see /General but you can't post in it. This issue requires a bunch of Alt f4 until it works again and is horribly annoying.

I ran into this same exact problem last night as well; able to see everyone chatting in the 1. General Chat channel but unable to post in it yourself.

Level 25 questing in Duskwood for several hours. I could see and participate in 1. General Chat just fine; never had a problem with it before. Then, while in the middle of a quest where I had to kill a bunch of mobs in Raven Hill Cemetery, I got DC'd during combat. I was able to login immediately after and found I had died and was at the spirit healer. As soon as I started running to my corpse, I got DC'd again. After logging in again, I was able to run to my corpse and resurrect but when I typed /1 to try to talk in General Chat, it wouldn't recognize the command.

The text field would looks like this: "Say: /1 test" It never switched from "Say" to "1. General Chat." I found the same thing happening for the 3. Local Defense channel as well. I logged out-logged back in, completely exited WoW.exe and reopened it again but nothing seemed to fix it. Finally I exited WoW and stepped away for several hours and came back later to find it was working again. Didn't change any of my settings or mess with any of my files/folders on my PC, it just magically started working; was able to type /1 and /3 to access the General Chat and Local Defense channels.

Its simple, you relogged real quick, and the server did not get the time to recognize you had a dc. And sometimes this makes you enter in the channel a second time. At this point the server believes your are in the server without being in. You can see what ppl say but cant write anything.

All you have to do it is leave the channel and rejoin it again. Its really annoying but it works. You can make a macro for it.

This bug can appears after a dc, a /reload and a server crash.

That's good info; I'll remember it for next time. I want to say I did try leaving the channel but I probably typed the wrong command for it. Thanks, I'll be sure to try this if it happens again.

I have had this same issue, however i ran into another issue that is kind of irritating but not debilitating. When i left general to try and fix the bug, then rejoined, it bumped general to 2. Nothing is in 1. So now everywhere i go 2 is general 3 trade etc. Can still use the chat, but i find myself /2 for trade and not even realize im not talking in trade at all

A good way to clear this is up is to make a macro like this:
Code: Select all
/leave General
/leave Trade
/leave LocalDefense
/leave WorldDefense
/leave LookingForGroup
/leave 1
/leave 2
/leave 3
/leave 4
/leave 5

You can also add the numbers up to 10, which is the maximum number of chat channels in vanilla. By using /leave with both numbers and names, you can be certain that you've actually left all chat channels.

Now you can /join General and it should channel 1 and work normally. As themagoo said, it seems to happen randomly after a disconnect or a server crash.
