Download file is corrupted, Help!

by Depanji » Wed Apr 15, 2015 10:08 am

I've downloaded the file from the download link 3 times now, still the same bug; It's on my pc in a winrar file, not a zipfile as the tutorial describes, and everytime I try to open the file it comes up with: "WinRAR: Diagnostic messages - Unexpected end of archive" If I try to click on the "Wow Classic" file in the winrar and right click the setup-bin in that folder to extract it to my wanted folder, it says "C:\Users\Name\Downloads\Nostalrius-WoW-Classic.zip: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive"
I've never seen this problem with anything else I've downloaded or used Winrar for, so please explain to me, whats wrong and how I fix this. Thanks.

What browser are you downloading from? Can you give me the md5 sum of the zip you downloaded?

I already deleted my zip after install, but I am redownloading to verify the md5 of your zip in comparison to the new download I will get in about 30mins. To get the md5 checksum of a file use the below linked program. It s the simplest program for windows to get md5 checksums.

http://www.winmd5.com/

Just or reference, I used Chrome to download my zip file.

Thanks, finally someone to reply ^^

I use Comodo Dragon, it's somewhat like chrome.
And I used your link, it came up with this code after I ran the checksum value; a1d3a43c8467874dbb1880fc8b0158c3

That is the same md5 I just got on the new zip file. I am able to extract the zip using winRAR. Are you that program as well? Yes, the file is a .zip extension on my end, but also states it is a winRAR file as that is the program that it will open with. Can you try a different program like winAce or winzip to see if it isn't your version of winRAR that cannot extract the file? Below is a screenshot of the file extracting correctly.

Yes I use winrar, and where yours say: "Extracting from Nostalrius-WoW-Classic.zip" Thats when it comes up with the corrupt message.

UPDATE: Alright, so I tried to use 7zip instead, now it worked! - Thanks a lot for the help :D
But how come my WinRAR couldn't handle it? It works with everything else.

It might be out of date. There is compression algorithms in use when zipping a file, if your program doesn't have the algorithm, then it can cause a "corrupt" false positive. This is why keeping programs up to date is important ;)

For anyone who reaches this in the future wondering what is wrong with this not opening and giving "Unexpected end..." error the fix it simple. You must update your winrar, I downloaded 5.21 (latest at the time of posting this) and problem solved.
