@rewind

I believe the dev team will require a date or reference to a patch to go along with that statement, but I will pass the info along nonetheless.

Unfortunately I can't find any patch note about that but that would be logical if it was like that from the start.

Only thing I can tell is that article section was first added on 27 november 2007 which was patch 2.2.3 and I checked every previous 2.0 patch, there was no mention of a change of any kind.

Personally I think this is a terrible bug/game mechanic. Any class that has a pet, the mechanic should be how Everquest does it: If the pet does more damage than you, you get less experience or no experience if you do nothing.

Even if my memory was fuzzy about this, which it isn't, this is exactly like the poster said above, a problem they fixed in EQ. Since vanilla was created by EQ players and devs, it seems extremely unlikely that they would have missed that. Since there is absolutely no mention of it in patch notes anywhere, it's a safe bet it was like that from the start.

I don't quite get this comment. There is nothing I've done that is against the rules. I have thoroughly read the ToU before using this method. I don't know if this was doable back in vanilla times or not, I frankly can't remember. But this is doable here with the current setup of the server.

The problem is that I wasn't banned for using this method specifically, but being falsely accused of botting while I did this.
The GM who banned me won't respond to my PM's anymore and some of the last things he said was

your botting activity was thoroughly confirmed

Which is completely impossible since it didn't happen. The only few inputs made to the game during this time was made by my hands, at random times when I had time to spare. No scripts were used to keep me logged in or spamming mend pet, nor any third party software to make automated inputs to the game. So yes, I was standing on spawn points with my lvl 42+ hunter, letting my pet kill off the mobs and getting me xp while I was working (on a laptop I brought with me). And since it was very inconsistent when I had time to move my character it often took some time before corpserunning back after dying and on a lot of occasions I got logged out due to inactivity and wouldn't notice it for up to an hour or more later.
It would be one shitty bot to work this way, and I don't see how me using the method this way could possibly be "confirmed" as botting.

Secondly he said

basically admitting that you're not always at your computer while your farming xp, contradicts your entire ban appeal.

Which doesn't makes sense to me either, since the whole point of this method is to not have to be at your computer as long as you are logged into the game. The xp gain is super crappy but better then nothing at all if you work 12h long night shifts seven days in a row.

If it's not intended that this method should be possible to use, then it's a whole other matter but still shouldn't be punished with a permaban.

If any other staff member would have a look at this and help me clear everything up it would be much appriciated. This is by far the best vanilla server we have played on and would like to continue to enjoy playing on it.

Them nasty hunter loopholes...
Innocent until proven guilty!
following a change of tos explicetly for pet classes:-)
What i dont get tough, whenever i think out of the box in terms of game mechanic, i open up a ticket and ask if its allowed.
You state u have read the tos in order to be sure that its possible whatever you planned,
but you cba to write a ticket beforehand to get confirmation of your idea, as in using comon sense?
Since your action will look like botting for a lot of random ppl??
seems fishy to me...

If you look on the first page you can see this post from the staff member(GM) Igen, which confirms that what I did should not be punished with a ban.

It should look like one hunter beeing afk with his pet on aggressive/defensive. I don't even get how it can look like botting when I'm standing still in one place.
Have you seen the long trains of players running the exact same path over and over again killing mobs in Tanaris? Now thats fishy...

So how does nost detect scripts is your question?
Judging from igens post that is!
still why didnt u write a ticket beforehand in order to get confirmation of your
lets call it "going afk but still getting xp" technique?
it boggles me that people come up with all kinds of stuff in their mind in order to have an advantage over other players( in your case free xp) but dont invest 5 minutes of writing a ticket about the idea asking for confirmation before starting to do it...
It would have solved the problem you have now beforehand!
