I tried to change my password earlier today and then after the server restarted I was unable to connect, neither my new or old password worked and now when I try to log in it says all the messages like handshaking then unable to connect.

If you successfully changed your password, you would have immediately seen an ingame confirmation. If you didn't see it, you didn't change your pasword.

Then how come none of my passwords work?

The server has brute-force hacking prevention measures in place that will temporarily ban accounts that try too many times to login unsuccessfully. If you've tried both your old and new passwords and neither of them let you log into the game, you will need to send a private message to one of the administrators with as much account information as you can to see if they can assist you with resetting it.

UPDATE: The new password reset feature is now live. If you're still getting errors during login, try resetting the password using the e-mail address you registered your account with. Make sure it's less than 16 characters in length.

i am unable to connect aswell - won't try it on bc don't wanna get banned
