Invalid Banning Reasoning

Hi

This post is due to my friend Crovern who was banned for afk farming with his pet as a hunter.
A bug that was applicable even in Vanilla times and is part of the game mechanics.
We're even as we speak having a discussion with other hunters in Shimmering Flats that use this same method and we all fail to see how this would constitute a ban.
Shouldn't a ban for botting be based on using illegal methods for gaining xp through 3rd party software?
You should look at other players patterns (Zathron) for example, using the exact same method.
I think most of us that has started playing on this server would want cheaters to be banned for using illegal methods. But banning people for taking advantage of game mechanics sounds to me like you are punishing other people for your own lack of knowledge for the game.

Both me and Crovern has been playing for work while being afk alot of the time and the only reason everyone wouldn't use this same method is that everyone just simply arn't playing hunters.

I feel that this is an unfair way of handling this issue and a clear lack of understanding of the game to shrug it off as "banned for botting".

We do not ban for going AFK with a pet on aggressive, as long as no script is being used to prevent the character from being logged off, or to spam mend pet. I will talk to the GM in charge of this ban and clear that up.

Okay that makes sense since no one wants botters on the server but getting banned for just trying to be efficient is too harsh in my opinion. Both of us enjoy playing on this server because of the original wow content and since you guys are keeping good order on cheaters. It would be a shame for it to stop just because the use of a "game glitch".

Actually this very much is an exploit and did not work on retail, you would receive zero XP/loot for kills in this manner, specifics of which (percentage damage, etc) would need researched but that much I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure it worked right at the release of Vanilla. But nontheless if it is working now then it shouldn't matter imo.

Hi Igen,

This is the current scenario. I have been banned for reason "botting" while doing this.
I used no script whatsoever to keep myself logged in (I have been logged out many times for inactivity while doing this) nor for mend pet and the only inputs made to the game was me attacking a mob, looting, skinning, jumping, corpserunning and logging back into the game. All made by myself, a human.
This has somehow been confirmed as a bot, which is quite strange to me.

I have been talking to the GM who banned me in PM's and given him a long explanation about what happened from my point of view and how the inconsistency of every action made by me would rule out me being a bot, but he seems to be offline now.

This whole situation really sucks since I figured this method isn't against the ToU, but here we are.

Any help in this matter is appreciated.

Note: the Hunter will not gain loot or experience from a mob that the pet kills solo. This is a deliberate decision by Blizzard, not a bug. If you intend on pulling multiple mobs and having your pet kill one or more of them while you focus on others, it would be best to try to get at least one shot or hit on each of the mobs and then allow your pet to do its work on them.

I find it strange that the concerned GM isn't taking this in and revoking the ban. Why not just try to fix the in-game issue and then in the future you will know for sure when someone is botting and not just afk-farming.
It seems like there's alot of personality difference that comes into this ban since Igen seems to have a much better understanding of this than the concerned GM.
Me and some friends started playing this since we looked forward to playing the old content again, not to try to cheat our way to fast levels and not understanding the difference shows a big lack of sensability in my opinion.
