Stuck at retrieving character list

Just downloaded the game, everything seems to be working fine up to the point that I connect to the Beginner Realm. It gets stuck with the notification "Retrieving Character List" for like 2-3 min and then stops connecting. Haven't even created a character yet. Been looking through the forums but i couldn't find any answers to my problem.

Same for me. This is a relative first for this server. I've been playing since March and haven't had the "Retrieving Character List" hang for such a long time. There was over 7.6K people actively playing last I checked so maybe there's just too much traffic for the server to handle at the moment.
