Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

I just hit level 10 as my Night Elf Hunter, and I was excited to do the pet quest. The first part of this quest went off without a hitch. I tamed the spider and turned it in to the quest giver. I was somewhat concerned that the spider didn't follow me there, but I was still able to complete the quest. As I ran to the next part of the chain, I noticed I still had a pet under my picture, so I tried to dismiss it and nothing happened. So I relogged and when I came back in it was gone. I thought everything was fine. When I got to the Nightsaber Stalkers, I tried to use the appropriate Taming Rod, but it keeps saying "Invalid Target" and now I have no way to move on or get a pet. Help please.

Try clearing your cache. While logged out, delete the "WDB" folder under your WoW folder.
