Unplayable during peak hours

by Skandale » Tue May 26, 2015 6:31 pm

Hello, I have normaly around ~50 ms, but I got to say, this game is old, the netcode is not good enough to handle 6-8k players online, the amount of delay makes normal gameplay unplayable, forget about pvp, even normal things like looting corpses are unbearable.

If the netcode cannot sustain that many players at the same time, there is only 1 thing to do, limit the amount of players and inject a queue system where idling players get kicked off.

Let's face it, when it comes down too it, how many players are actualy idling, taking up resources that are better spent on making the game more fluid? 30% ?

I read somewhere that your system can handle 5k players online without lag, if that's the case, you should probably stick too it.

I had no lag when it was 8k+ online, At worst tiny delay in very crowded areas, But it was top 0.5sec. So the server seems more then capable of handling it.

Seems some ISPs or data routing are better than others.

Some people have decent latency at first but it grows steadily the longer they play the game until the latency grows so much the game becomes unplayable. Some people have unplayable latency right from the start of logging in regardless. Some people have tolerable latency during off hours (< 4K people playing) but then unplayable latency at peak hours (> 7K people playing). Some people have excellent latency (< 30ms) all the time but experience a lot of delay and stutter when playing indicating possible packet loss. And finally some people have no latency, delay, or stuttering problems whatsoever even with nearly 8K people concurrently playing.

no matter how the data is routed, latency is latency right? No matter the distance and hops, if I have 50ms then I have 50ms, it shouldnt be different than the next guys 50ms.

And why is it varying so much from person to person?

I also got problems on peaktimes.

I got 30-50ms from germany, steady and good performance.

On Peaktimes, i got delays of casts/animations/action up to 1sec and some stutter as well as fps lag.
Its really bad in area´s like the barrens, caused by the huge player numbers in an area it seems.

But it really sucks to stop playing on peaktimes.

There are just way too many cows. Their excessive weight makes the server unstabull.
