Problem with router

by menofcaoz » Sat Jun 13, 2015 6:54 pm

Hello, this is a strange issue but I thought I might give it a shot here on the forums. The issue is that I get lagged when I use a Cisco N300 router that I have in my house (unplayable in main cities, 480 ms avg elsewhere). But when I use a TP-Link TL-WR940N router, which was the one I used before I got the cisco, I have around 200 ms and 400 ms in main cities. The difference between them is HUGE. So if anyone knows why this happens, and how can I fix my cisco router I'd appreciate it.

Another thing, with both routers I can connect to websites normally, and download files at the same speed. The only issue is the latency in WoW.

Thanks.

PD: I can't use the TP-link since it doesn't give coverage for all my house, the cisco does.

Do you know if the cisco router's firmware is up to date?

I have no idea if the firmware is up to date. I downloaded the update from the internet, but I don't know how to update it. It's a .bin file. I searched the configuration 192.168.1.1 and I don't find any option to update.

EDIT: Managed to update. It was barely nothing, from v2.0.01 to v2.0.05. Testing inside the game in Ironforge.

EDIT2: Well I can open stores in Ironforge, which I couldn't before (<9999 ms), but the lag in general keeps high, but at least playable. More suggestions welcomed thanks.
