Getting new SSD...will I be able to play without old files?

by vengeance0909 » Wed Jul 08, 2015 12:48 pm

So I am purchasing a new SSD due to a defect in my current hard drive. I was just wondering if my account would still work if I had to reinstall everything (not transfer old files, make new ones)? Like if I wanted to play on a friends computer who had vanilla would that work or is everything based on your files? Any insight would help, thanks!

Greetings,

if your friends have a 1.12 version of WoW Client then will work.

If i had to install everything on my new hard drive, will my account still work once the download is done?

Your account is stored on the server. Not your client.
Your UI will not be setup the same if you do a fresh install on your SSD, but your account will still be able to be used.

As Aunstic said, all data related to game accounts is stored on the server. At the time you install and login to WoW, the data for the account you log into is downloaded and kept in the WTF folder on your local machine (World of Warcraft Classic\WTF\Account folder specifically).

If, for whatever reason, this folder is lost or deleted (Your HDD crashes, you accidentally delete it yourself, you uninstall WoW, etc.), it'll simply be recreated with the same data the next time you login. At most, you'll lose Options settings and addon configurations, which both can easily be reconfigured.

One thing to note about SSDs is that wow Vanilla is only 32bits and don't benefit that much from the read speed, I tried with 1gb/s and 11gb/s read speed and there was no difference at all :(
Not sure about Hard Drives to :p

I run WoW easily on a 16GB flash drive. With today's hardware, I'm sure people would want to eventually put DOOM 1 on a quantum computer though.
