deleting WDB causes issues

by Holmes » Tue Jul 28, 2015 4:13 pm

you sometimes have to delete your WDB folder to fix issues
but everytime i delete mine im getting new afterwards
i keep getting disconnected as soon as my char enters the world and if i dont get disconnected for once, other things are bugged like everyone's naked.
deleting WDB again does usually not fix this

i had this issue a few weeks ago already untill it finally loaded the wdb successfully without disconnecting.

why does this happen? whats the problem bout me not being able to load a fresh wdb from the server? its only happening on nost.
anyone else experienced that issue?
is there anything else you can do but reconnecting and deleting the wdb over and over till it works?

The WDB folder holds server-side information like a cache. It holds what the server tells it exists in the game. When you delete your WDB folder, your game asks the server for that information again and creates a new folder. If you don't delete your WDB folder, the game never gives you new information.

Anyway, the WDB folder is likely not the culprit of chain disconnects. It's likely an addon issue.

Is your client installed under Program Files? It sounds like there is a problem when the game tries to create those cache files and thus the server kicks you out.

EDIT: actually, the server shouldn't care about your WDB at all.

well i just tried another char where all addons were disabled at
now players had cloths on, but my own char wasnt loaded (invisible) and the spell "attack" had a big questionmark symbol. waited for minutes but nothing changed.

back on the toon i got disconnect after disconnect, it doesnt disconnect me anymore but all players are naked and "inspect" doesnt show any items weared, only me and mine and all spells seem to be ok here. kinda like the opposit of my other char without any addons.

i guess the disconnects were/are happening because something with sending/receiving the new wdb is wrong so it kicks me off.

i guess i can fix all that by just deleting wdb like 20 more times and reconnecting till it works like some weeks ago, its still wierd and annoying. nobody else ever had that?
just never gonna delete wdb again as soon as it works again

my client is located in D:\games\World of Warcraft Vanilla enGB\World of Warcraft along with the wdb folder.
what makes it weird is i never had these issues on other server what makes me think its the server having issues giving me a proper wdb

thx for the quick respond btw!

Sound like there is a communication issue between your client and the server. This is often caused by lag and poor connection. It could also happen on old computers that are struggling to run the client, like non-gaming laptops and so on. There is no anti-virus program or similar that could be interfering with the client or your Internet connection isn't having any issues?

no my internet connection is fine tho im using a firewall + antivirus software, i doubt its causing that.

i btw fixed it now after many tries. i think ive found out why it happens and how to solve it.

it seems to happen if you delete your wdb and the char you perform the first log in with is in a very crowded area like IF or SW AH. this makes you disconnect and the newly created wdb folder gets fcked, thus on any further attempts you get disconnected again and again or any other bugs are happening like ppl are naked, items/spells have no icons anymore etc. because this seems only to happen if the first char that "creates" the new wdb is in a very crowded area, it possibly is like a message overflow the server calls and kicks you off.

so to fix it, you delete your wdb folder again, take or create another character in a not too crowded area and log in with this one. this gives you a proper new wdb. so you'll be able to log into your real characters even in crowded areas afterwards without getting disconnected or having any bugs anymore.

if anyone ever has the same issue, try that!

Do you use the addon "Questie?"

One of the files in the WDB folder is your quest information. I found that when I deleted my entire WDB folder and logged in on my main character, the game would freeze indefinitely (Not the same issue that you describe but ultimately still render the game unplayable). When I'd alt+F4 WoW and relog, I'd disable Questie and it would load just fine and my WDB would recreate no problem.

Something about redownloading all your character's quest data from the server that would make recreating the WDB files painful in combination with Questie functionality causing the game to freeze. Since then I've learned to just delete all the individual files in my WDB folder except for the quest information file.
