Rewards for named mobs in Barrens...wtf?

This is driving me insane. I killed a couple of named in the Barrens, one was a level 24 Stormscale IIRC, the other was a Kodo, Thunder Lizard or some such. Both dropped a quest item, like a tooth, claw, etc. Started the quests, which is to turn the item in to Jorn Skyseer in Camp Taurajo. The reward for each appeared to be a buff, trinket or ability (not sure which, for reasons about to become evident). One was to add 2 Stamina to another player, the other was a speed increase. Having completed these quests, there is no trace of said reward. There is no buff on my character, there is nothing in my bags, there are no new abilities in my sheet. Am I missing something, or is this a bug? I can find nothing whatsoever on these specific quests online. This NPC gives some hunting quests that are similar, but they START with him, whereas with me, I killed the mob first and it dropped the quest starter item that then says to turn in to Jorn.
