At about 62, 46 of the escort quest, the chicken aggros something over the mountain and then disappears. Moments later he respawns at his starting location (60, 64).

Honestly, every escort quest is a pain in the butt considering how broken the aggro radius is. Whether it is the Defias Traitor escort or any other, escort mobs will aggro to any kind of combat, from any faction, from a significant distance.
