Undocked Chatboxes frequently disappear when viewing the map

I try to drag a chat box out of the primary chat area that has general and combat log and I use it for world, trade, lfg but when I view the world map the additional chatbox vanishes. It doesn't happen all of the time, only sometimes.... it'll work fine for like 10 minutes then I open the map for a second and it disappears.

I have the same problem, my friend fixed it by using a chatbox addon

I had the same problem - turned out the fix was rather non-intuitive. You have to go into interface settings and turn off "automatically join guild recruitment channel".
