Dual box question

Hello, i was going to go to walmart today and purchase a Laptop, and i was going to use this as a second monitor i found a program that would allow that and i would let me switch my mouse between both and keyboard depending on where my mouse was. I was going to use this to level 2 characters sense i would be playing as them both and having to manually play as both, obviously one would have the other on Follow, but i would do all the casting looting ext myself. Is this allowed or is this going to result in a perma ban?
Thanks hope to hear back soon

If you read the terms of use (The thing that everyone is supposed to read before they start playing), the answer is clearly stated.

Viper wrote:Clarification on multiboxing

Multiboxing refers to playing multiple separate characters simultaneously. This can either be achieved by using multiple separate machines to run the game or by running multiple separate instances of the game. It is against the rules to /follow level characters, run dungeons or raids with multiple characters, PvP with multiple characters, etc. There are only a few situations where multiboxing is allowed in Nostalrius, e.g.:

Trading items between accounts.
Professions, as long as no farming is involved;
i.e. You can have two characters ingame simultaneously for crafting, enchanting, or trading purposes.

So, could i sit a toon in org and do crafting while leveling on my other account? or is that a bannable offense?

This is a slightly gray area. You are allowed to trade between chars for crafting and enchant your own gear. But you are not allowed to queue for a BG and farm on another char while waiting for the queue to pop. So actually playing two chars simultaneously is disallowed. Is crafting stuff playing the char?

I think it would be unlikely you'd get permanently banned if a GM decides that you've stepped over the line without a warning first though. This is going by the history of bans for multi boxing. People who have been banned have gotten a warning first in most cases. There may have been a few exceptions in egregious cases of course.

I am curious why you cannot play 2 characters at the same time when not using any botting programs, macros, or 3rd part programs allowing you to send commands to both toons at the same time.

It was allowed in retail to play 2 characters at the same time as long as you were manually sending commands to each toon individually. I have been doing this in retail since patch 2.0, usually putting a healer on /follow while I farmed on my dps toon. When low I would switch to the healer, cast some heals, then switch back to my dps toon. I would also do this to power level an alt.

I would like to be able to do this on Nostalrius, mainly for quests that I need help on (such as heals) and can't find anyone to group with. I just want to make sure this is allowed, since ToS makes it sound as if it isn't, before I try it.

And if it is not allowed, I am just curious as to why it isn't. I can completely understand multiboxxing multiple toons using programs to duplicate keystrokes being not allowed, but not when I have to control each character manually with the exception of /follow.

Greetings,

our terms of use are very clear. Multiboxing of any kind is not allowed, with the sole exception of short term crafting/trading in a capital city. Both of our realms have sufficient population that you should be able to find players to group with for any and all adventures.

The GM team.

The key word in your question about why it isn't allowed is Retail. You payed for every individual account, so of course they were good with you running 2 or 3 or 5 accounts at once. It equalled $$$$$.
They don't allow it on Nost. Whatever their reasons, it's the rules. You break the rules, you get banned.
