Log off / On to save char state (myth?)

by Poopfeast » Wed Sep 30, 2015 12:16 pm

Hey guys,

Probably the wrong place for this topic, but since its the most visited I'll take my chances.

Been hearing alot of people saying that logging off and on saves your character state, and it then prevents losing progress (xp, quest items, progression) in rollbacks due to the server taking a huge dump every 10 minutes.

Can anyone confirm this? I know for a fact that the server config has disabled the option to save state while logged in (there are addons for doing this but they don't work)

Sorry in advance if this has been answered, I was unable to find any topics with clear answers.

Infact it does. Mangos only saves characters to the database in intervals. If the server crashes you will get pulled back to the last save interval. Loggin off will also save your character.
Trading items works aswell.

Really? That's really useful if true
Would that work if I just got a raid epic item? Just relog and I won't risk losing it to a rollback?

Would simply opening trade screen work or does something need to be traded?

Greetings Poopfeast,

You must remain logged out for roughly 30 seconds for your character to leave the game world and save.

How about trading items? Does this indeed save your character, and if so does it take time as well or is it instant?
