Gnomish Mind Control Cap not working

When you use it succesfully, it makes a hostile humanoid or player function as your pet, and gives you a pet bar to make them attack, follow, etc., and I've read from wowhead comments that when you use it on players it's also supposed to make them use their abilities/cooldowns when you send them in to fight. But for some reason the petattack button or hotkey or setting it to aggressive does nothing. Of the 20+ times I've tried to use this item in pvp, I've only been able to attack with the mind controlled player one time. Is this a known bug?

In the video of the frost mage Vurtne you can see how it worked back then:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh_cLN66zHA

2:56 - Priest
8:23 - Warrior (attacks other player and charges at 8:32)
10:22 - Pala (uses SoC and attacks)
18:02 - Priest (starts with heal and then attacks at full health)

I just checked the bugtracker but i've found no report, may you open one? :)

Edit:// Another big problem i noticed, it's not possible to use the mind control cap if the caster or the target are in combat. Should be possible tho like in this video.

Hey you're right about the being in combat thing, I didn't realize it was even supposed to work in combat. This thing's more broken than I thought. Shame seeing how it's such a cool item. I'll definitely put it in the bugtracker when I have the time.

I've been able to attack with MC'd players pretty often, but they teleport around and have horrible pathing. They also only auto attack.

The in combat thing was a nerf at some point in vanilla, so probably pre 1.12.
