If my friend wants to get off for the night but i want to keep leveling (we are leveling together) so i have him just put me on follow while i grind for a bit, is this against the rules? i want to make sure before i do anything that could be bad.

Against the rules. You may get a warning, or you may actually get a permanent ban on one or both accounts if either account has already had a warning for multiboxing.
Please be sure to read the ToU.

Also, account sharing is against the rules, which it would be if you log in with your friends account to put him on follow.

oh no i wouldn't run both wows on my computer, he would just put me on follow until he DCs from afking from his own computer. I did read the terms of service and it didn't seem like him putting me on follow (as long as i don't run both programs myself) was multiboxing so i wasn't sure. but thanks guys i wont bother it seems to be in a grey area and a few extra minutes of xp isnt worth the risk!

Ah it's not someone co-located with you, just someone maybe in your guild or that you've been levelling with. That should actually be OK, especially if you have obviously different IP addresses. I don't know of anything in the ToU that would prohibit it.
Note however that it's not up to me to interpret the ToU, but the GMs. It does seem like it could be a grey area.

Don't think they would like that very much. 97.8% risk for a ban.

Hello Darager,
It is allowed as long as there are two players behind two different computers. In this case, as long as you dont play instead of him or make him follow you when it breaks.
Best regards,
Syrah
