worried about "gold trafficking"

hello
i heard a lot about ppl getting banned for alleged gold trading. including a guild mate who did not buy or sell any gold for money but got banned for giving some gold to an ingame friend. now i am not here to appeal his ban. but it leaves me very worried and paranoid.

am i allowed to send gold to my alt (on a different account)?
am i allowed to trade my horde alt gold through the neutral ah?
is it allowed to maintain a guild bank that receives gold from multiple characters and also sends some out?
is it allowed to send/give gold to people for no obvious reason (as in no reason that could be deduced from reading logs). for example am i allowed to gift a good friend of mine 100g so he can buy a mount?

how can i avoid getting caught in a false positive? should i start taking screenshots of all conversations leading up to a gold trade? do i need to prove that both accounts involved in a transaction are my own? how can i be safe? does it help to state the purpose of a transaction in the ingame mail (as in "here is your loan back + interest. thanks for the help" + 100g)?

i have a lot of gold lying around on a bank char and i am afraid to send it back to my main.

All situations you mentioned are allowed.

What is NOT allowed is to buy (or sell) gold. When gold is bought, not only the account buying the gold is banned, bot also the accounts which receive the bought gold.
So when you receive gold from other people, make sure you trust them 100% and knows it is not bought gold. If you cannot say for sure he didn't buy the gold, then don't accept the transaction.

It is just like real life when buying cheap hifi, phones etc ... if it is too good, then it's probably stolen goods - and even you didn't steal it, you get punished for being part of the chain.

as i said i dont trade in gold. the only bought gold i could receive would be as payment for my crafting.
i know for a fact that all the gold on my accounts is legit. my question is. do the GMs know that too?

also. so say a guild member buy gold and doesn't tell anyone. then he contributes to the guild bank with the china gold. will the gbank get banned? i mean how am i supposed to control that?

also: how about gifting gold to friends. there is no way a program could tell the difference between me giving a guy 100g for cash or giving it to him because i like him. now the typical response would be not to gift anyone gold anymore. that would be the safest option but i don't really like it. i should be able to gift ppl gold without fear of a ban. so would i get unbanned if i could document how the deal was made? as in screenshots of me telling him to buy a mount with it or something? i am afraid that that just wouldn't be enough.

It possibly could get banned, yes.

For obvious reason I don't know how GM's decide which transactions are bannable and which are okay. My guess would be "free" gold or overpaid items would lead to bans, but reasonable priced transactions (paying "correct" prices on AH or for doing an enchant etc) would be fine. This is just my guess - GM's will not confirm / decline this.

In short: you must judge each transaction yourself: if it's too good to be true, then it is probably not.

I understand. You really need to be sceptical for "free" gold here.

But also take in mind that people buying and complaining on the forum is not always talking the truth. They "hide" between the innocent or naive ones who received (bought) gold without knowing better - which makes the problems seems bigger than it really is.

That said, I have moved gold between my accounts many times. Most of the times small amounts, but I've moved 100+ gold a few times with no problems.

i agree with fighting gold sellers and buyers very much. i just think that it is the wrong approach to make everyone else live in constant fear of unjustified bans. i don't have a better solution but if small amounts can set off a red flag that is really worrying.

I completely agree with Olbrod here and Mimma's replies just seem to be guesses.

I've lent gold to guildmates multiple times from 0-200g for decks/epic riding skill/enchants etc...

How do I know the GMs aren't just going to ban me out of the blue out of ignorance?

Yesterday I logged in to a 50g mail because a friend owed me money for enchants that I forgot about. If I got banned for that transaction I'd have no idea what to say to a GM.

Either all of the threads on the forums are people just lying and claiming ignorance or there is a decent amount of collateral damage.

All that being said, with my examples of trading gold I have never been banned or even contacted about gold.

It would be nice to hear an actual response instead of playing in fear.

Hello,

Let's clarify some things first.
You are allowed to trade money / items / enchants ... between your own accounts (as soon as you respect the terms of use of course).
You are also allowed to use to AH in the way you want (either buy items or transfer items between factions for example).
You are also allowed to give items or money to your friends.
...
So the transactions you listed are just fine.

BUT, buying gold from gold selling websites always leads to a permanent ban of your account.
I just confirmed it for your character.

Please respect our rules in the future.

Daemon
