[Failed ] "Cleansing of the Orb of Orahil" - What now?

REPOSTED from Warlock Forum:

Quest 1 = Fragments of the Orb of Orahill
Quest 2 = Cleansing of the Orb of Orahill

The tasks here are to acquire a Summoning Orb (quest 1) and cleanse it (quest 2) by summoning and killing a level 40 (elite) daemon.

Quest 1 was easy. Got the Summoning Orb from a Warlock in Desolace on the first drop.

I failed Quest 2 and am now unable to proceed because the Summoning Orb has disappeared from my bags and the NPC (Tabetha in Dustwallow marsh) does not offer a retry option.

So, I returned to Desolace and killed 10+ summoners (from whom the original Orb dropped in Quest 1) hoping for another Orb. After killing 10+ summoners no Orb dropped. Now, I may be a victim of RNG, but given the drop rates I've read about in the comments (~50%), I would guess not.

I have not dropped Quest 2 (the cleansing step) because, in the absence of a Summoning Orb, I don't see how that would help.

Any advice? What am I missing? What do I need to do?

Thanks, in advance

In case others run into the same problem: If you fail the "Cleansing" quest, you'll note that your orb has disappeared. If you try to talk to Tabetha again, she will not offer a retry. But, if you abandon the quest ("Cleansing") you just failed and then talk to her, she will then offer the quest again.

NOTE 1: when you retake the quest, she immediately begins the summoning, so have your buffs up and your pots handy.

NOTE 2: After running back from having failed, do NOT rez in front of Tabetha's cabin door if the timer hasn't expired. The daemon is still alive and will immediately attack and kill you. If possible, rez in back or well to the side of the her cabin.

Cheers,

Tabetha's abode is a hut of misery for low levels. Some people will say "it's so easy" as players are prone to dismissively say about every single encounter in the game.

Just getting there is a pain in the ass. And yer lucky if there aren't a hundred of those damn mana thingies spawned outside just daring you to go see Tabatha.

Everyone fails the first time...the second time....the third time...
