I read about the no boxing rules and I'm happy with it but my brother and I are housemates and both created characters today. Do I need some type of IP exemption so both of us can play at the same time? I couldn't find information on how to obtain it. Obviously we'd like to play together when we can.

There is a rule against multi boxing, not multiple accounts.

As long as you and your brother are perfectly clear you're not multiboxing you should be fine, to prevent getting suspected of Multiboxing I would advise you to not /follow one another, and don't have names that have like 1 letter different.

Is this good advice? My girlfriend and I play and we tend to stick together and /follow each other when we go afk to do chores around the house. Sometimes, I'll lean over to her computer and respond to a whisper or something. We play with another couple which acts similarly.

Yeah its very good advice. There is nothing wrong with putting someone on /follow. However, it will draw attention from other players if done for long periods of time, they may decide to report you for suspected multiboxing. If one of you is not at your keyboard when the GM asks you to perform certain actions to determine whether or not you are multiboxing, what then?

Good questions, would be good to see a GM response on this one.

I'd hope the GM would have enough sense to allow your significant other or sibling to get back from the WC to perform these actions. (Assuming they can come back to the computer within a minute or two, I don't see the problem). Unless they are AFK for a long period of time, that would most likely constitute multiboxing and they should have just logged off instead of AFK followed.

They don't. Recently a guy was caught multiboxing, and he got his friend on skype to play his character so it looked like two people playing. This failed, and the guy was perma-banned for account sharing as well.

Bottom line:
If you are AFK, stay AFK. Don't go on /follow. No, it is not illegal to do so, but there indeed IS a risk!
If you get caught, the "My friend is at the toilet" won't be enough.

As soon as one person involved gets up to "do chores" they should log out. Because as soon as that happens, it is one person playing for two accounts (i.e. Multi-boxing). If a GM were to happen upon you with her /following you (or vice versa). Then you will likely be asked to perform a task simultaneously to prove that you're not multi-boxing both characters.

So remember - if one (or both) of you need to AFK for any extended period of time (chores, bathroom, left cat in the oven, etc), it will be best advised to /camp one of the characters until both of you return to your computers.

This falls under account sharing and if you're caught it will result in a permanent ban.

Do not under any circumstances play on each other's account.

The question is, did this person's char get disconnected by his friends login and then the gm sees that the account is being accessed by another IP, or did the person literally go over to the computer and play the char. If the char was DC'd by another login and then preformed the actions that would look fishy to anyone.
