Question about playing with flatmates

So I really enjoy playing Nostalrius with my flatmate (connecting with the same router ofc), but recently I got a bit worried that we might get banned.

What worries me is the following:
"Multiboxing refers to playing multiple characters simultaneously. This can either be achieved by using multiple machines to run the Game [...]"

So, how is it determined whether we are "Multiboxing" or playing as we're doing? Does some kind of algorithm just checks our IP and notices that they are from the same range?

We play different classes and I sometimes play alone, but most of the time we play together and are about the same lvl.

Hope a GM can give his opinion on this.
Many thanks!

this is allowed, there are many existing threads confirming it.

As long as no single human is playing multiple characters simultaneously you will be fine.

But how can I be sure they know that we're not multiboxing?

People always assume it's just IP addresses but there is so much more information it can report.
MAC addresses are unique per computer, a GM can watch and make sure characters move independently, or aren't KeyCloning their keystrokes.

If you're playing by the rules you really don't need to worry about it.

My brother and I are the same level and have played from the same IP for nearly 8 months.

This ^^

The only thing to remember is that you should never use /follow. If one of you need to fo AFK, then just /afk - don't go on /follow since technically you are Multiboxing, and if a GM spots you and the other character does not answer, then your story with "My flatmate was just running after more beers" won't work.

This is the important part to remember. They don't just sit there scanning through the IP's connected, they are looking at behavior of the players after the report.

They wouldn't/shouldn't care about different MAC addresses or host names as you can easily multibox with a laptop next to a desktop or another laptop.

Uh shit... We did this sometimes...
Is there absolutely no way a GM can see that we are 2 different players? Or do we need to 'live' with these restrictions?

If your friend is AFK and on follow, then you are not two players ;-)

/Follow is not illegal to use as such, but doing so carries a risk of being reported and banned if found multiboxing, so therefore it is simply highly recommended you never use /follow.

Dude the GMs are humans, not robots.
You sound like you're covering your ass for a ban appeal instead of asking a question.
