(BUG) Arcane missiles not procing clearcast correctly

by triggerlily » Thu Mar 12, 2015 3:53 pm

Here is my proof for everyone who has questioned me in other threads. My proof isn't in a vdieo or link to some ancient blizzard patch notes update, it is literally the actual talent tree tooltip. If I sound really salty in this post it is because i've contacted support through an in game page and was told that "the devs have fixed it and will be in the game soon", this was a week ago and never happened, so i was basically lied to im assuming. I messaged Daemon about it the other night and he told me to get "proof and make a thread" so here we go.

Just to clarify something about channeled spells. Each channel tick has its own individual chance to be either resisted, hit normally, or crit. It isn't like you cast a channeled spell and if it does damage the first time it will do damage every time till the channel goes away, that isnt how it works (people in other threads didnt understand that so im clarifying).

My proof :

Spells that deal channeled damage like arcane missiles and blizzard each hit targets multiple times during the spells channeling which should be procing clearcast.

The whole argument really comes down to if you have higher than elementary school reading comprehension skills or not.

Nah, the argument comes down to whether you have a source for this. A tooltip of the spell in this case is not a source when we're talking about mechanics that ever so often doesn't work as you would expect them to.

Sorry i don't have an archive of blizzard patch notes from 2005 on my computer. Anyone that has ever played a mage with clearcast can tell you this is how it has always worked.

The talent doesn't say "It has a chance to proc on each cast of a damage spell" it says "It has a chance to proc with each hit of damage to the target" - So channeled spells that hit multiple times need to give proc chances during the channel.

If you dont understand this or refuse to accept it you probably have clinical autism or some other learning disablity.

You don't need to be so rude straight up. He just asked for a source (one that can be easily found in a 2 second web search):

Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): This spell now only has one chance to trigger Arcane Concentration.

Ergo, in vanilla, this spell had multiple chances of proc'ing Arcane Concentration.

sorry i've been through a lot of aggrevation over this.

I paged in about this and was lied to saying "yeah the devs fixed it it will be in soon" never happened. (I didn't take screenshots of my conversation with the GM but if a ticket resopnse history exists then the convo is there if a staff wants proof im telling the truth)

Im forced to play a talent tree that is gimped (im forced because its 5g to respec for me and that isnt happening) im lvl 38 and saving for mount.

I have to argue with people that dont understand mage spells and have probably never played a mage before and after the 10th time it gets real old fast.

What you described is how the spell works on every mangos server. Which is, if you have tested it, totally overpowered.

We found evidence that it is not suppose to work like that for channeling spells, so we scripted it like it should be according to our knowledge and the information we found.

If you find evidence that can prove us wrong, then we will modify the script once again.
Only a video from retail is a 100% reliable source.

Until then, the script will remain unchanged.

Note : tool tip is not a reliable source, specially in vanilla, take a look to anger management for example.

Blizzard as well. Here is the wiki on Arcane Conc: http://www.wowwiki.com/Arcane_Concentration

Clip from this page:
" Blizzards often proc clearcasting when allowed to run to their full duration, due to the large number of times Blizzard strikes and thus has a chance at proc'ing, which can sometimes mean that you can chain two, three, or even four Blizzards for no mana cost that all"

Fix it.

Fun fact, the article you linked also states: "Unlike "on spell hit" effects, Arcane Concentration cannot proc off each hit of an Arcane Missiles' bolt, but only off the initial hit of AM itself."

Why the OP cares about clearcasting proccing AM is beyond my understanding. Also funny enough after that sentence it says "citation needed", as in, un-confirmed. My issue is with blizzard. Tooltip states it should be able to proc on each tick. Currently it only procs on cast. I'm not going to provide proof of this because I don't need to. I tested it. It's true. The devs wont fix it like there have been other more glaring issues that are still not fixed.

This is what a source looks like:

"Only the first tick of AM can proc Clearcasting or Netherwind Focus."
