Forum Assistance

Hi I wasnt sure which forum section to post this under,

A player on the forums told me that using [Oil of Immolation] in PvE on nostalrius is a bannable offence I would like to check whether this is true as I searched the forums but could not find any posts anywhere?
http://db.valkyrie-wow.org/?item=8956

Also would it be possible for you to lock this thread?

some members are starting to be quite racist and it is severely offtopic

https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=34769

Thank you for any help you can offer it will be much appreciated

In the following thread you will see Holystrike there trying to derail it , by also arguing with everyone there.
https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic. ... 20#p244610
As Holystrike was first there to start the arguing.

His point there was to lock the topic at any cost because someone had different point of view.
Later he start arguing with people in this topic.

Other than that i agree that topic should be locked due too much escalated arguing around.

https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic. ... 60#p247338

here is himself attacking me personally and flaming everyone in the Topic.

p.s you can see Holystrike edited posts when he was pure insulting people to flame and later he edit to remove once they got insulted so he remain innocent (check his edit history).

you even followed me to my support section post... and attempt to derail this thread, wow.

Actually as it is easily verifiable ive been trying to get this thread locked since page 5 when it first started to go offtopic, everything i posted prior was poignant and on-topic... regardless any assistance in locking the thread would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

Stacking spell power while using Oil of Immolation is exploiting a bug that has been reported on the bug tracker: https://report.nostalrius.org/plugins/tracker/?aid=1937. The issue applies to casters however, not so much to ret paladins (although using Flask of Supreme Power could be considered a concern). Oil of Immolation is not supposed to benefit from spell power in patches 1.6 and later, but it does still do so on the PvP server.

Whether it would be considered bannable is determined by the situation. For a ret paladin with Flask of Supreme Power, we would consider that a minor exploit, resulting in Final Warning, then permanent ban if caught a second time - because the gain from doing this is quite small. If the paladin has no (or only a small amount of) spellpower gear and was using Flask of Distilled Wisdom, that would be OK. For a guild that had all spellpower-stacking casters use it to achieve lower speed run times, that would be a major infraction and result in a permanent bans.

Regarding the thread that you mentioned, I will take a look at it.

It does apply to this "person with special needs" named Holystrike cause he has the epic PvP Retribution set among other items which has boatloads of +spell damage on each item.

And the fact that he even had to make this post in the first place is quite evident of his lack of basic game knowledge and mechanics.

Thanks for the reply, very much appreciated.

I hope you can understand I was not aware that this was considered abuse as there was no specific reference to it on the forums, and it was commonly used throughout vanilla to increase effective dps, so I posted here when discovered

currently my spell damage while in raiding gear totals at 45 spell damage (18 boots + 27 Pants); this doesnt seem to be excessive to me however (I could definitely understand a paladin in full T2.5 not being able to)

my complete raiding set up:

i will adjust my consumables accordingly to not include immolation oil while flasked, thanks for the heads up.

Holystrike on his post even said that he is using Flask of Supreme with immolation oil when he was comparing , and he also said that grants you 100 dps (abusing advantage over others) .

Also he was accusing us of abusing when he clearly was doing immolation oil abuse over past 3 months.

https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic. ... 40#p247141
and can you not pubicly advertise bug abusing on this server please... its bug abusing... deals less dps... and is setting a bad precedent for rets on the server as a result of both

he was accusing others for bug abusing ^

https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic. ... 40#p247186

1st I proved my damage is equal if not better then Talesavo's considering I am in far worse gear and immolation oil grants up to 100 DPS with flasks and full buffs rolling

Here is himself talking about how he abuse the bugged oil in order to gain advantage and do extra 100 dps.

Holystrike is actually using Marshal gear , which is not exactly small amount of spell damage as retribution paladin with all the respect . Thus he is consume depending and he surely always use Flask of Supreme and Greater Arcane Elixir as such that all Paladin Abilities get increased.

Immolation oil as such until get fixed , used by retribution paladin can always be abused and i believe GM can't always monitor every single retribution paladin in raid. (in that case he can always abuse).

... can this thread be locked now please, you can see the effect these two have on the forums already in this thread alone lol, I wont be posting again in it.

100 dps isnt what it scales at and the GM's know it; it doesnt even do 50 dps using my gear because most of the mobs in raid resist every second or third tick obviously that was a figure of speech, It hits for 60-70 in my limited spell damage gear and can easily be proved before or after my next raid.

this is why they said partial spell damage was acceptable because the actual rate it scales it scales at is extremely low however when intentionally abused through stacking pure spell power it can yield differing results.

i.e not 45 Spell damage

The pot calling the kettle black
The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to claim that a person is guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another. The phrase is sometimes abbreviated as "pot, meet kettle."
