Won't go farther than connected

I'm on a T1 Connection and the server won't let me get past "connected" lol... it'll either take me to "realm selection" or "disconnected from server". This isn't the first time this has happened either I know people that play in EST and PST zones with different IPS and internet providers and still have this same connecting issue. I understand not all lag entirely can be fixed but is any progress on this ever going to be made lol?
