PETITION: Let Players Enjoy Secure Nostalrius Again
Posted: Tue Mar 15, 2016 3:31 pm
Executive Summary/TL;DR - Recent wave of account hacks will have a strong negative impact on Nostalrius community, unless properly, systematically and urgently addressed by staff members.
Nostalrius is at state of Crisis
As many of you have heard, read and perhaps seen in game, an increasingly great number of accounts are getting hacked. Good players, that have followed account safety protocols suggested in the ToUA and have done nothing to compromise the security of their accounts, are losing their gold, their gear, and most importantly - their faith in Nostalrius Begins Project.
Story so far
I would like to expressly state my gratitude to every member of of Nostalrius staff that have worked hard in the past, and continue to do so, to deliver unprecedented environment for us to enjoy. I cannot even fathom amount of work it takes to handle such a large community as this one, and I am truly thankful for everything you have done.
As have been stated in the official communications before - “Private server community’s satisfaction is our only goal” (November 30, 2014). And I have no shred of doubt that staff members are sincere about this, because otherwise bringing this petition to their attention would be an exercise in futility.
Impact on the community
Above all the gold and gear what really matters to us, both the players and the developers, is that our time invested into this wonderful project is respected -“... because these people spent or are spending their time, trying to offer a fun environment and good memories on a project they believe in..” (November 30, 2014).
The tragedy is that over a year of dedicated time spent on the server and all the great progress made thus far can become rapidly undone if diseases, like the hack wave threatening the community, is left unchecked. Not only does it adversely affects players directly hit by the hack, but it undermines communities confidence in the Project as a whole. If other players see that this can happen to them and nothing will be done about it, they will stop taking their time here seriously, and the community will rapidly deteriorate.
As the Terms of Use Agreement states: “Nostalrius staff will make every attempt to show you the respect you deserve.” Many of the players affected followed all safety protocols suggested in ToUA and then some more to keep their account safe and still fell victim to hack wave. Said players turned to the GMs and Admins for help, because only they have now the power to assist, and they were turned down. This hardly seems respectful after all the dedication and soul that players put into Nostalrius.
Going forward
I appreciate what staff policy in the past for dealing with this might have been. But part of the successful project is it’s ability to adapt. We are in this together. Please do not leave good, dedicated and faithful members of the community out in the cold. “We need you now more than ever to continue on this road of success - your success, the developers, the ISVV team, PTR testers, in the Communication team and in other ways” (February 28, 2016).
Please review your policy in handling this issue and please give the affected players the dignity of a proper response.
I urge other affected players, and anyone who agrees with the issue raised, to stand behind this petition and leave a short comment below. I kindly ask for everyone doing so to remain respectful and to view this as a community issue and not as “us against them”.
Thank you for your time.
