No email address when I signed up

I was under the impression the only way to change your password is in game, but I see there is added functionality on the website now requiring an email address.
When I created my account I don't remember there being any email address field, I just created a username and password. I've gone through all my emails to see if there was a registration email but I don't see anything.
I still have access to my account, I'm just worried that should I need to reset my password or change it I am unable to do so ? I do not want to loose access obviously.
