Unable to connect

Hi. I've been offline for a few days. Trying to login again now, I get the message "unable to connect" after the login processes passes "handshaking". I see a few other people writing about the same problem around here, but I can't find any real fix. Creating a new account is not really a sulotion, as that would mean having to lvl up all over again. Does anyone have a fix? or can the staff look into this problem?

I did by the way attempt login from another computer, on another IP from a totally different place then I normally play. So this seems to be an issue with the account side of things.

I had a similar issue. Look inside your wtf/Config.wtf file and make sure...

Code: Select all
SET realmList "Isvv.nostalrius.org"

...or something similar doesn't exist. If you see this delete the line and try again.

Whenever you connect to a specific realm that realm is added to your config.wtf file. In the case of Nost's IsVV realms, which are only available for staff, you will not be able to connect. So it will appear as though the server is always offline.

As always if you need further assistance please ask.

The following is written in my Config.wtf file :
SET hwDetect "0"
SET gxColorBits "24"
SET gxDepthBits "24"
SET gxResolution "1024x768"
SET gxRefresh "60"
SET gxMultisampleQuality "0.000000"
SET gxFixLag "0"
SET fullAlpha "1"
SET lodDist "100.000000"
SET SmallCull "0.040000"
SET DistCull "500.000000"
SET trilinear "1"
SET frillDensity "24"
SET farclip "500.000000"
SET specular "1"
SET pixelShaders "1"
SET particleDensity "1.000000"
SET unitDrawDist "300.000000"
SET movie "0"
SET readTOS "1"
SET readEULA "1"
SET realmList "login.nostalrius.org"
SET patchlist "login.nostalrius.org"

This seems correct to me, but I tried deleting anyway, did not help.
Any other possible fix you know about?

all the other stuff looks familiar except set patch list...I don't know what that refers to. But I copied the appropriate section from my settings below...

SET realmList "login2.nostalrius.org"
SET ffx "0"
SET cameraYawMoveSpeed "180"
SET cameraYawSmoothSpeed "180"
SET cameraTerrainTilt "1"
SET cameraDistanceMaxFactor "1"
SET realmName "Nostalrius Begins"

login can be login. or login2. doesn't matter at this point. relmname is definitely incorrect.

it will probably be easier to just throw away the WTF folder and start over rather than dawdle with individual lines....if the problem lies in the config file.

I concur with Diametra. Whenever you get to a point where nothing seems to work create a back up copy of your WOW folder. In the original folder delete the Interface, WDB and WTF folders. This will reset WOW to its default installed state.

Let us know if this fixes the problem.

Tried adding the settings you listed, did not work. Tried deleting the whole WTF folder, did not work. Tried deleting the WTF folder and the interface folder, and the WDB folder, still did not work. I really do not get where the problem is =<

After reading your original post...I'm wondering if you have other accounts on your current IP as there is an account limit per IP set at 3 I think. If you took your laptop to a different address and it worked fine...sounds like an IP issue either with the limit or the IP. If you signed on a different computer at a different address then it could be software.

The problem showed up while I only had one account. I created a second one after the problem accured to see if I would be able to login on a new account (which I can). My original account on the other hand does not work, even when trying to logon from another computer, on another IP.

It being because of software doesn't make sense to me when it works on the "new" account I made.

Sorry about all the problems you're having friend.

Because I do this all the time, did you try typing your username and password? I've found situations where copying my password sometimes includes spaces or random gibberish characters. If you type out what they should be then this will at least rule out the issue of a corrupted username or password.
